I spent the rest of my weekend not leaving the house.
I was surprised to see Cole at school on Monday. It was the first day of year 12 and even though he was the new kid, everyone knew him. Everyone knew Cole Saccone. And not for being the new kid, but for being the evil thing brought into town. The son of the guy who was murdered.
As if moving to a new town and a new school wasn't hard enough, he will now have to deal with hearing everyone mentioning his father getting murdered. And that's far worse than being the mysterious new kid.
His first day would be way harder than a regular new kid because he had bigger problems to deal with, other than school work and making friends.
His problems were pretty public too. His family was trying to mourn Harvey's recent death and plan the funeral, whilst the detectives delay the healing as they are still investigating their house, interrogating them, and trying to capture the murderer. On top of that, they have to deal with everyone in the town against them, reminding them of the horrid events that happened in their new house. School, home, town; anywhere they go, they just can't get away from it.
And I was holding onto some deep shit myself. I could be helping him, and his family. But I found my mouth frozen and trapped shut. My body locked up whenever I thought of helping. I couldn't. It might just kill me.
I overhear the people beside me at the lockers talking about Cole, and about his father, pointing, whispering and laughing as the teachers talk to him in the office.
I just wanted to ram them into the lockers.
Without even meeting him, the whole school hated Cole because he's supposedly cursed.
The Saccone's were the only newest thing in town that had anything related to the timeframe of the event. They were the only thing different--Which, I'm not going to lie, it was suspicious--So people blame them for being the tip of Corkhaven. Since they got here, Corkhaven changed. It was no longer safe.
Once I grab my books and shut my locker door, I see him walking out of the office with his hood over his scruffy messy hair and his hands in his hoodies' pockets. His dark blue zip up hoodie which he isn't supposed to wear, was unzipped to show his uniform underneath.
Suddenly two girls are walking up to him. "Is it true that.. you're the kid whose father got murdered?" The blonde one asks.
He glares coldly at them for a while clenching his jaw. "Yeah." He answers them.
"What-" they continue but I stop hearing the second he makes eye contact with me. As if he could feel my eyes watching over everyone else's, his eyes caught mine out of all of them. I feel my stomach tumble over and over as I take a deep breath.
He shows no emotion in his stare, so I look down, shut my locker door and walk off to class with my books.
I had English first which was annoying. I don't hate English, but I don't love it either, and I was tired.
10 minutes into class, the door suddenly opens and my teacher stops talking. And to everyones surprise, in walks Cole with another teacher.
He's in my English class. Great.
The teachers talk and introduce him to the class, but everyone was already whispering about him. I wish they would just shut up. It seems we both can't get a break.
"There's a spare seat just up the back." The teacher points.
On his walk to the back of the class, Cole suddenly notices me. He turns his head to the side on his way past, making eye contact with me for the second time today.
