"Hey, mum, can you take me to the footy game tonight?" I ask her.
"Why?" She asks confused and completely caught off guard.
"To watch the game." I state, obviously.
"You hate football." She reminds me.
"Everyone in the school is going." I excuse.
"And you don't like being around lots of people." She puts the cloth down and tries to figure out my motive.
"I'm supporting the school. Since the incident, everyone has been different. This game is gonna make everyone feel normal again."
"It wasn't an incident. It was a murder. Forget it. It's too dangerous. And I don't understand the sudden interest in football."
"I need to get out of the house." I complain. "Just because someone got murdered, doesn't mean that I of all people am going to be next. Everyone is going to be there, Mum. You really think the killer is going to kill someone in front of 100 people?"
"Cassidy, I already said no."
"Mum, I promised my friend I'll be there."
"What friend?"
"Does it matter?"
"Yes, Cassidy. It does matter. You don't have friends."
"It's Cole. Ok? I'm going to support him because this is going to be his first game without his father."
"He has other people for that. You don't need to go."
"Mum, he asked me to come. How come you always want me to make friends, but the one time I have one, you suddenly don't want me have one."
"Because, he is bad news, Cassidy. He's not a good person to hang around. I seriously don't want you hanging around him. You couldn't have chosen any of the other good school kids to be friends with?"
"Well, bad luck. He's my friend. And you can't control who I am friends with."
"I am your mother and that means you do as I say and you are not allowed to go to that game. Plain and simple."
"What the hell is going on out here?" My father walks in.
Great.
"She wanted to go to the footy game and I told her no, because it's too dangerous." She tells him.
"You hate football." I'm told again like I don't fucking know that. "And I agree with your mother. It's not safe. You're definitely not going out alone at night with a killer on the loose."
"I'm not gonna be alone!" I whine, getting utterly pissed off now. "I'm literally going with Cole and I'll be surrounded by 100 other students who get to go."
"If you really want to go, then I'll go with you."
"Oh my god! No. You can't come."
"Well then you're not going."
"I'm literally almost 18. I can look after myself. I'm not 5 anymore. I don't need you. Every other parent lets their kids go out with their friends."
