(Y/n) was coming back from a village located in the east, when a black crow appeared, circling above her, "Caw! Caw! Forty people have disappeared in the Mugen Train! Gojo (Y/n) must accompany the Flame Pillar, Rengoku Kyojuro for investigation!"
With a soft exhale, (Y/n) followed the crow to where Rengoku was. It took almost a day's worth of running, but the female gojo reached the village by noon. The black crow flew through the near deserted streets, landing next to another crow that was perched on a wooden sign. (Y/n) stood in front of a noodle shop.
Entering the small dainty shop, she spotted Rengoku at a table with a bowl of noodles, "Umai!" He loudly said, taking another bite as he uttered the same word again, "Umai!"
"Try not to choke on your food, bushy brows." Rengoku turned his head, his wide, flame-like, eyes softening at the (h/c)-ette, who took a seat across from him with a grin on her luscious pink lips.
"Mm! If I die by tasty food in my mouth, I would have no regrets!" Rengoku smiled widely. (Y/n) quirked an amused eyebrow, patting his head with a small chortle, "That'll be a pitiful way to die, don't you think?"
Rengoku laughed boisterously, calling out to the middle aged man working in the kitchen, "Sir! Bring my lady the same thing I'm having! I'd also like another bowl myself!"
(Y/n) looked at the flame hashira with a knowing look, leaning an elbow on the table, "So, what's this I hear about you rescuing a woman from a demon?"
The two of them conversed for a bit. Rengoku explained he saved a woman from a demon last night and she's being treated for any wounds. There was also talk about apparent murders on a train done by the 'Slasher.' Forty people disappeared without a trace. The owner of the small shop had a tabloid in his hands as he showed it to them.
Rengoku looked at (Y/n), "A fellow demon slayer arrived earlier before you did! They informed me the location of the Mugen Train! It was secretly transported to a train shed!"
(Y/n) finished her meal, placing her chopsticks down gently, "Shall we go then?" She smirked, standing up, followed by Rengoku. They were headed to the station first to investigate where the body of a conductor was found.
The station itself was absolutely barren. There was no sign of a human being. "Kind of dreary, isn't it? Is this really a train station?" (Y/n) was in disbelief how the structure of everything was. It was all made of wood as the flooring was all stone. It wasn't...futuristic, but the progress was getting there.
Before Rengoku can comment, a high pitched voice was heard, "Demons aren't real! Are you seriously bringing up demons now of all times!?"
(Y/n) looked ahead and saw a young girl and an old lady by the front desk. Beside them were plenty of bentos. Probably unsold. She lazily leaned against the wall, deciding to let Rengoku handle all the questions. The female gojo laughed when the flame pillar decided to directly ask them. He had no filter. "Way to be subtle!" She giggled.
(Y/n) noticed how the old lady stared at Rengoku with a shaken look on her face, as if a faint memory came to her. "Mm?"
"Get away from us!" The young girl threw her paste bean bun at Rengoku, the food smacking him directly in the face.
(Y/n) laughed, approaching Rengoku. Her hand took the bean bun, examining it. She preferred sweets; like mochi. Feeling a warm hand grip her wrist gently, she watched in surprise as Rengoku ate the bun from her hand, "Umai!" His hand was large as heat emitted from it, warming her wrist.
(Y/n) hardly paid attention to what the young girl was saying, only faintly hearing the words, but she got the gist of it. "Ano...could you buy some bento's?"
