Despite the general confusion, everyone was too excited to wait any longer. The next chapter began.

"Ayanokouji-kun, do you have a moment?"

Both Horikitas appeared to instantly understand the situation. Suzune sent me a fierce glare, while the SCP hid his mouth behind his hand. Was he smiling or frowning?

It came. It came again. The feared situation.

I'd been feigning sleep during class, pondering society's true purpose while I pretended to nap, when the devil approached me.

"Did you come across anything worthwhile?" Nagumo's lips slanted in a mocking smile. "As you pondered society's true purpose."

"I was pretty tired, so I couldn't think straight."

"I see. What a shame."

Ibuki scowled. "Is nobody concerned about the whole devil thing?"

Shostakovich's Symphony No.11 played in my head. The song perfectly described my current predicament: the feeling of utter hopelessness as people are chased by devils and as the end of the world quickly approached.

'Shostakovich's 11th... I'll have to listen to it sometime,' Hiyori decided. 'That way we can talk about both books and music.'

"Commendable taste in music, Ayanokouji-boy." To everyone's surprise, Koenji spoke up. It was almost more surprising than hearing someone talk about the end of the world.

"Um... thanks, I guess."

"Shostakovich is a classic." Sakayanagi smiled.

Even President Horikita agreed. "You can't go wrong with Shostakovich."

"Seriously! What's the deal with this devil stuff!?"

Even with my eyes closed, I could tell.

I could feel the alarming presence of the devil right next to me as it waited for its slave to wake up...

"Okay, this is getting weird," Mori Nene from 1-D acknowledged.

Kushida feigned worry as she looked at me. "Is everything okay, Ayanokouji-kun?"

"For the most part."

Horikita twitched in anger. 'A devil? I don't want to hear that from you of all people.'

Now, as a slave, how do I escape this situation...?

My computer-like brain instantly executed all the calculations to arrive at the answer I most needed.

Karuizawa snorted. "Computer-like? Seriously?"

She and her friends snickered. Hey, even if you're supposed to act like you don't know me, isn't that a little too far? I'm kind of hurt.

Conclusion... Pretend not to have heard anything. I am naming it the 'pretend sleep' strategy. My predicament will be solved with this strategy.

Ibuki rolled her eyes. "Truly genius."

"As expected of the almighty Ayanokouji-kun," Akito said solemnly.

If the person talking was a kind girl, she would overlook it after saying, 'Well, it can't be helped. I'd feel bad to wake you, so I'll forgive you. ☆'.

One or two girls scrunched up their noses.

'I'll kiss you if you don't wake up, ok? Muah~~' is also OK.

Most of the girls snarled at this. Ike and Yamauchi sent me a thumbs-up, which I didn't feel particularly happy about.

"If you do not awaken within three seconds, I will bestow additional punishment upon you."
