After she felt the sharp stab, everything was a blur... She recalled that Red had stabbed her. Conney was there... But she had made such an... unnatural... Inhuman sound! And had wrung Red's neck... Then it was all blank... She did feel someone wrapping something around her wound, and taking the knife out-
"You wanted to see me?" Conney stepped in, interrupting her thoughts.
"Yes, Conney... I haven't been very nice to you, and I apologize for that. I... I don't remember much, but I think you saved my life-"
"No need to thank me. We're partners. Besides, I really can't hold a grudge" Conney winked.
Chuckling, and wincing, Kayla said, "Well you really are something Detective Conney"
"Funny that coming from someone who just escaped from the clutches of death"
"Nah. I was between dying and death"
Then Conney's expression grew serious and Kayla tensed. She didn't want to ruin her new friendship. She reached out a hand, and Conney's expression grew playful again. "Well, I was afraid all that gore would make me do a worse job than I actually do... So the likeliness of your death was more than 99%"
"For what's worth, I think that 1% actually did work" Kayla gave a small smile, that made Conney grin wider.
"Partners?"
"Always"
"Then sleep. You need it" And Kayla succumbed to a peaceful slumber, one she was more than sure she was going to wake up from...
