Riley's POV
I did my very best to avoid Lucas for the rest of the week but it was like he was everywhere I turned. Every time I looked at him he was looking at me and then he quickly glanced away. I hate to admit it, but I miss him.
It's Monday and I walked into Mrs.Slatons class 1st period and say down. I kept my face turned forward to avoid making any sort of eye contact with Lucas.
Finally, Mrs.Slaton started talking about the equation for the sum of interior angles.
".....and the formula is (n-2)x180. Now I will be putting you in groups of 2 to work on your next assignment.
Please don't put me with Lucas. Please don't put me with Lucas.
"Jason and Paige....Sarah and John...Dakota and Lily..."she went on and on,"and lastly, Lucas you've been struggling so I'll put you with the top of our class...Riley."
You have got to be joking.
Lucas and I glanced at each other and you could feel the awkward in the air.
"Uh..hi." He said awkwardly.
I smiled just as awkwardly,"hi."
We scooted our desks together so we could work on the assignment. 15 problems and a few awkward glances later we finished the assignment.
As I went to grab the paper, my hand grained Lucas's hand. My heart jumped and I let out a small gasp.
"Uh...sorry." I mumbled and went and turned in the paper.
I placed the sheet on Mrs.Slatons desk and almost ran( or whatever running is on crutches)back to my desk and pulled it back to its original spot.
Soon after, the bell rang. I grabbed my things and hobbled out the door. Relieved to finally be away from the awkwardness that is Lucas and I. I opened my locker when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around to see Maya.
"Hey Riles!" She smiled.
I grinned,"Hey Maya!"
"What's up?" She asked.
"Oh nothing," I sighed,"You'll never guess who I got paired up with in math."
"Could it be.."she thought,"Lucas Friar?"
I nodded.
"Ooh," she made a disgusted face,"Was it awkward?"
I scoffed,"if by awkward, you mean that I was afraid to breath because he might look at me, then yeah. I'd say it was pretty awkward."
She laughed,"Well speak of the old Ranger Rick himself."
Lucas was walking the opposite direction of us. He shot me an awkward smile and kept on his way.
He was always so cute when he smiled.
Lucas POV
It is so hard to stay away from Riley. Especially when she has looked pretty all week. I just want to be able to talk to her again without feeling like I'm going to blow chunks. Even if we can't be together, I just want to be around her.
As I passed her and Maya in the hallway, I was so tempted to speak to her but I have to respect her wishes. I just wish that I was one of her wishes.
--2 weeks later--
Riley's POV
It's been 3 weeks since I've spoken to Lucas. I think he has moved on. I saw him walking around the hallway with some girl the other day. Actually, I've seen them around for the last 5 days. My stomach clenches every time I see them. I know I have no right to be upset because I caused this but that doesn't make it hurt any less. I guess it's just time that I move on.
I walk into my 3rd period where I see a new kid sitting in my assigned seat. It's a boy and he has short blonde hair, green eyes, and a smile that could light up the universe.
I hobbled up to him with my crutches failing to help me walk and smiled,"um. Hi I'm Riley."
"I'm Ryan." He glanced up at me and smiled.
"Hi Ryan," I said,"um. You're kind of in my seat."
He jumped up quickly,"Oh I'm so sorry."
I giggled,"it's fine."
I sat down in my seat and he sat behind me. We listened as the teacher taught about the civil war and finally the bell rang.
I walked out of the classroom and suddenly a boy was walking along side me,"Can I carry you're books?"
I smiled,"Sure."
I handed him the bag that was slung over my shoulder and kept walking.
He walked me to my next class and we talked like we had known each other forever.
As he put my bag in my desk and walked out of the room, I smiled and called,"Thank you, Ryan."
I'm gonna be okay.

Hey guys so this one is a little shorter but I hope you liked it. Don't freak out about what's going in between Riley and Lucas. Remember this IS a Rucas fanfiction. And just letting you know that Ryan is supposed to resemble Lucas a lot. That's on purpose.
Should I bring back "player" Lucas?
