CITY OF THE DAMNED
They say right before you leave the living, your life flashes before your eyes.
I suppose you could say the same about me even though I'm not dead.
No, I am still a living being, although I sold my soul to the God of Death.
They call him the Reaper. I didn't believe he existed either until I saw him with my own eyes. Here, in the city of eternal night, I could only make out the outline of a massive man. There was something about him that made the hairs of my neck instinctively stand erect in alarm. There was a primal kind of danger to him, one which he didn't need a bulging muscular torso or boulder-like shoulders to convey. No, one didn't even need to peek at his beautiful, angelic eyes brimming with hatred to understand my terror.
A glimpse of his silhouette from a mile away could stop any human's heart from beating.
With one foolish word of assent on a rainy summer night, I gave him my soul to drag back to hell with him.
Now, I was his until the end of time.
How did an average, happily married, middle-aged woman with two full-grown sons get herself into such a mess?
I was, until a little while ago, married to a rather ordinary man named Blake.
We had two sons, one named Sebastian, who was born with great powers and a great destiny. The other one was named Orion. He was a simple human boy. Despite having escaped so many ugly burdens that came with being a member of a family such as ours, Orion was the one the Reaper targeted. My sons were still alive. At least I had that small comfort.
My name is Melody Balan, although some may recall the days I went by the name Vivienne Menthe. Still, there was a man who once believed that marriage vow, he would make me Vivienne Thorne.
Perhaps you've already heard of me by one of these names.
Perhaps not.
It doesn't matter now.
What came before has passed.
What happens now will decide the fate of our world.
Here is my last tale of the darkest devotion and immortal love.
