Dearest reader,

When I started writing this story, I knew it was going to be about Ella and her evolution as a character in the grand scheme of the tale. However, I knew that the story did not start or end with her, she was simply the teller. My other characters were just as important, and they had their own stories to tell.

Originally, back in 2021 when I started writing the sequel, I wanted to write a small Callan POV as a prologue, to give insight into what happened where we left off. But then... I kept writing. I realised there was so much to say about Callan and Minna. As you can see, I've got a big soft spot for them. Theirs was a tragic love that got halted much sooner than it should have, by forces outside their control. I realised that telling a little bit of their story was necessary to widen the overarching plot and to explain why Ella, Callan and Minna came to be the way they are now.

Take this as a small novella of sorts. As always, it is much longer than I originally expected, but it is a piece I hold dear to my heart. I hope you have enjoyed reading this short story before we resume with the sequel of HOG!

I leave you with a part of one of my favourite books and scenes from literature—Jane Austen's Persuasion. Mr Wentworth's love letter to Anne Elliot, after eight years of being kept apart, loving each other despite it all.
