What is Love

There's comes a day in everyone's life when they're taken aback by the feeling of love. An undescribable, messy feeling. It brings good times and bad, and all in-between.

We get so caught up in focusing on this feeling that we often get overwhelmed with "finding the right one." And in this, we tend to overlook what's right in front of us the whole time... Love.

That's the sorrow story of the everyday man, however. Not you. You'd been down the road of love, and you'd felt it's warm embrace.

But you'd also dealt with the cold, numbing and sharp knife that was heartbreak. You'd been met with this knife all too many times, stabbed in the abdomen by it's unforgiven blade.

You found yourself in an endless loop. You'd meet a girl and open up to her, and she'd feel special. You'd put your trust in her, just for her to break it, and you along with it.

And there would be grief, and regrets as well. But after awhile, you always put yourself back out there, resetting the cycle.

This sounds like the origin story of some sick, self-centered incel. But you were far from it, the opposite actually. You just been dealt a shitty hand in all honesty, a few unlucky relationships.

But in no way did you feel any hatred for the women. You were a helpless romantic, an artist longing for the love of his life. But it wasn't that easy...

Love is...difficult. It is confusing. But it's also liberating and soothing for the soul. It binds us to others and allows for us to operate not as just an individual, but as a pair. It allows for you to truly meet a person, experiencing everything they have to show. From the good, to the bad, love is...

"What is love?" You ask yourself.

You'd been writing down this short excerpt as you thought it up. A short, written note you concocted as the thoughts came in.

"Baby don't hurt me...no more..."

You turn your head to meet your co-worker, Jess.

"Excuse me?"

"You know...like the song? You are aware you were talking out loud right?"

"Oh..."

She shakes her head, her curly, light blonde hair brushing your face. Jess stood at an impressive 5'10 and an expressive figure. Your relationship was ironic. She was the cliche attractive best friend you'd never imagined dating, but there always was this sorta attraction.

But being the romantic that you were, it was quite a surprise that you hadn't even the thought of any romantic interest in her. Maybe it was the unresolved issues you constantly struggled with, your self image and relationships.

Whatever it was, it was enough to keep you preoccupied as to not mistakenly fall for your best friend.

"What are you writing?" She asks.

"It's nothing..."

"Mhmm. Whatever. There's a booth over there that needs their order taken..."

Nodding, you gather your shit and go to take the order of the booth, far in the corner.

"Hello I'm Y/n, I will be your-"

You choke on your words as you stare down the person inhabiting the booth. She was more beautiful than anyone you'd ever known or seen. She kept her chin low, hiding her face under a weathered Yankees hat. She obviously didn't want to be noticed. You couldn't quite tell why, though you also couldn't get a good look at her entirely.

"Hi y/n, I'm...Kendall... Can I get the wing basket please?"

Kendall? It was a cute name, but there was something off here....
