Never having felt a sense of belonging to the people in the class, or the school, I was more than happy to end my last day of school but at the same time move and attend a different school at a different place and have the same feeling made
Waving at the old neighbour I entered our driveway and looked at the two-storey house, our safe place, me, my younger brother and my mom. A single mother, who worked hard in bringing us up and making a name for herself was a tough task to do and I could not be more proud of her.
But when she suddenly announced about moving in with the person I never met, the person who was never there for us, my dad. Yes, I held resentment towards him but my mom never did, it's been 17 years since they lived apart yet she still loved him to death, and she never blamed him for leaving her alone instead she blamed the circumstances. She has always been secretive regarding the questions we ask about Dad which makes me cautious about him.
She always said we would meet him soon when we asked about him when we were kids but gradually stopped asking when we realised that the soon would never come until now. My mom is a fine character, she often makes me curious about herself, when questioned she refuses to give a proper answer instead "You'll know soon", and "I'll tell when the time comes" make me very frustrated and causing us to end up arguing and my younger brother Alaric being the peacemaker.
He is the calmest and sane person in the three of us. While my mom and I have a temper issues. My mom has this weird thing of sensing my and Alaric's presence, just like right now she opens the front door before I insert my keys.
" Celeste, welcome back sweetheart" Mom exclaims as she pulls me in shuts the door, and takes me to the dining area where Alaric is seated playing with his phone.
" Yo, Cel's mom says we are leaving today at night," He says making me frown and look at mom
" Mom, let's leave when it's not dark, or early tomorrow," I told
" It is safe to leave at night," Mom said taking a seat on the chair as she opened the takeouts from my favourite place, Alaric dug in right away when he saw food, he might be the calmest but he is a beast when it comes to food.
" Sweetheart trust me on this, I know you are angry with me for not giving you enough time to wrap your head around the idea of moving in with your father, angry with me for leaving everything that we have built and I'm sorry for that, I know you have your resentment towards your dad but he had no choice, we had to do what we could so please I want you guys to hear us out, I want you guys to give you dad a chance to explain and be your father, please," mom said looking at both me and Alaric.
" Okay," I said and Alaric agreed as well, Alaric was looking my way when I went to sit, and he pulled the chair beside him nodding my way. He knew me well, he knew how I felt about moving in with our dad, and he knew about my fears but in the end, both of us agreed to it because we wanted our mom to be happy and Alaric always wanted to, meet dad, he loved him, without seeing or knowing him but I was happy as long as both of them were happy but I knew somewhere deep within me, the little I craved for a dad.
" Everything will work out sis, don't worry," Alaric said looking at me with worry to which I nodded and smiled slightly at his concern.
After having food we returned to our respective rooms, to pack our stuff, mom had specifically told us to only take our essentials while she donated the rest of our things which were not useful, she even sold our house and the boutique she owned, I wondered how she was able to leave everything she earned leave behind. After two hours of packing my stuff, I looked around my room one last time, saying goodbye I turned around to go downstairs where Alaric and Mom were already waiting with their packed luggage.
" The car is here, Are you guys ready" Mom asked with a smile, her happiness and excitement shining through her eyes. Alaric held my hand making me look at him as we made eye contact, " Mom's happy that's what matters", the thought in our minds we nodded looking at Mom.
Once outside the house, I took one last glance at the house and made our way towards the car with Alaric moving in front of us shielding us, A black Range Rover stood beside it a tall well-built man stood giving out cold vibes, he took the luggage from us and we to load the trunk but his subtle bow towards my mom didn't go unnoticed by Alaric and me making us raise eyebrows at each other. Who exactly was our father? Well, let's just say we were not prepared for the answer we got.
Alaric held the door open for us, once seated comfortably he closed the door and went to sit in the passenger seat, my mom smiled and shook her head at his protective nature.
" We shall leave now," the driver said making me jump in my place as I looked at him already seated and buckled up, he looked at my mom through the rearview mirror to which my mom nodded and the car drove us to our new world......
