"Purely because I want something to mark from all of you, I will draw names out of a hat for this terms science assignment so you most likely won't be with your friends. Don't complain to me because I honestly don't care," Ms Lonreech said with her voice as dry as sand paper. Lucas knew that this could go one of two ways, one he gets paired with a girl and goes fine or he gets paired with a guy which won't end well. It won't end well because although the school has a no tolerance policy to homophobia, Lucas has been called every name under the sun. "Lucas you'll be with Daniel" as she announced the pairing he could hear all of Ryan's friends snickering laughing, only heard the f slur once (definitely surprising for them). This was because Daniel was one of "the boys" even though he was incredibly hot he had never dated, still he was definitely straight as someone that popular had to be. As every one left class Daniel stopped Lucas to talk to him.
"Hey bro, sorry about my friends, I've got soccer till 4 are you free to meet at the library to work on this at like 4 thirty"
"Sure I guess, no problem as long as you're not like them we should be sweet," Lucas laughed.
"Yeh I'm not like them I promise, see you at 430," Daniel said as he walked off.

Four thirty rolls around Lucas is in the library at a table he's currently reading a article on a completely different topic, that has nothing to do with his science assignment. Then just as the clock ticks to four thirty five he hears a ping of a door and in walks Daniel wearing a Tight fitting soccer jersey, shorts and a pair of boots. He was also incredibly sweaty, Lucas normally finds sweaty guys gross but Daniel looks really hot.
"Hey sorry traffic was bad coming back from soccer" Ryan said in a voice that soothed Lucas's heart.
"Oh that's alright I was just reading some stuff, everything alright? You seem really stressed," Lucas asked. Ryan fidgeted with his hair before he responded.
"Yeh I am stressed but it's not your job to care, my friends treat you like garbage why do I deserve to be treated any better," Daniel spoke softly and guiltily.
"Daniel we're doing this project for the next 2 months so for at least the next 2 months I'm here for you if you want me. And for the record you've always been nice to me, so if you want to talk about it we can go back to mine and I can try to help understand what's going on because from what I've seen I really want to," Lucas responded with his ever caring smile.
"Thanks Lucas" Daniel responded.
Once they got to Lucas's house they both went straight up to Lucas's room the first room along a short hallway then they sat on his bed.
"So if you're comfortable explain to me why you're so stressed," Lucas said calmly.
"Ok well firstly... I'm gay Lucas just like you I'm gay and as you've experienced first hand my so called friends don't work well with gay people, I'm only friends with them cause who else would be friends with me, I was happy to be grouped with you because I've got a ridiculous crush on you and I know you don't feel the same way I just needed you to know. I was hopping I wouldn't have to deal with it but now we're grouped together they won't shut up about how I'm grouped with the gay guy," Daniel said tears in his eyes
"Firstly wow, secondly you're wrong about me if you want me then I want you, it's a crazy world being queer but I want to do it with your handsome face by my side," Lucas said wipping Daniel's tears with his sleeve.
Then Lucas took the leap, heart pounding he kissed Daniel, which probably would've been the biggest mistake of his life if he hadn't just found out about Daniel being gay and into him. Daniel hugged Lucas and just started to violently sob. Lucas felt at ease as because of the warmth from Daniels body as it was like a massive hot weighted blanket. Daniel couldn't say anything bar a soft thanks into Lucas's ear.

2 months had passed and it was time to submit the assignment and much to Lucas's fear could be time to say goodbye to Daniel as although they'd been dating while they were doing the assignment. Lucas was scared Daniel would just leave after he got the marks. "Lucas and Daniel 95 out of 100 possible points, seems you two work well together," Ms Lonreech said winking at the pair.After school they met up at the library like they'd been doing every day since they started the assignment and started dating. "We did amazing on that assignment, well it was mostly you Luke," Daniel cheered hugging his boyfriend.
"Well to be honest you helped a lot especially with calming my nerves and making me feel no matter how we did" Lucas kindly responded before kissing his boyfriend.
"Of course, now why don't we go get dinner to celebrate my treat" Danial asked enthusiastically.
So they went and got lunch to everyone else they looked like friends but they knew that this was their happily every after.

A few weeks had past and even though no one at school knew they knew and they were happy together until today. "Oh look Daniel, Lucas here has a big fat crush on you might want to lock your windows or he might climb in and try to get with you,"
Lucas couldn't believe it as he watched as his boyfriend the guy who had cried into his arms a little over a month ago was laughing about him stalking him. That was his final straw he ran out the front of the school crying he heard what everyone said as he ran that he was a snowflake and he was going to find Ryans address and he didn't care he ran to the library his safe space. After a few hours of being in the library he checked his phone to see it blowing up with messages all about a Facebook post by Daniel it was about him.
"I write this as an open letter to not just Lucas but to the school community. You claim to have a no tolerance policy on homophobia but if you did I wouldn't be scared to do this and Lucas Frances wouldn't have run out of school today. What I have to say is the rumours are true I Daniel wright am gay and I am/was dating Lucas but he didn't stalk me it was the other way round I found him when I needed him most. But I wasn't there when he needed me because of my own fear of being bullied for who I am, which lead to me laughing along when Lucas was called a stalker. Lucas even if you don't accept my apology I want this letter to be there for all queer and trans teens in our school community to remind them that their love is more important than being liked by others and that's it's worth fighting for."
After reading it Lucas wiped the tears from his eyes as he realised the impact he had had on Daniel.
"So luc, what do you think? everyone's gone nuts about it, but to me I you're the only one I care about so what did you think?" Daniel asked scaring Lucas from behind.
"Dan it was perfect you'll never know how much it means to me. But you came out on the school Facebook page that was pretty ballsy how do you feel?" Lucas asked in an excitingly loving tone that Daniel had missed.
"Like a weight was lifted off my shoulders," Daniel responded.
"So everyone knows about us now don't they? How do you feel about that?" Lucas asked kindly.
"Yeh everyone knows, so proud I can finally shout to the world how much I love Lucas Frances, also Ms Lonreech gave me a hug and wanted me to give you this." Daniel said as he handed Lucas a card.
"Dear Lucas, congratulations. When I paired you up with Daniel I only thought about what you could do for him academically, but today has proven without a doubt you two are exactly what the other needed. I can't wait to see your continuing success not just in your academics but in your social life. You're are a power house of amazing Mr Frances don't let anyone tell you otherwise." Lucas wiped a tear from his eye after reading the card.
It was gonna be a long fight for his love but for the first time in his life Lucas knew he had someone to fight it with him.
