Yoongi first met him when he was twenty one.
It was a surprisingly sunny February afternoon. He was listening to his music as he was walking home from a long and stressful day of college, head starting to sway to the beat while subtly rapping along with the lyrics as he soon approached his apartment complex.
He goes up a few flights of stairs before he grabs his keys and unlocks his door. He releases a pleasant sigh, happy that he's finally home and can just relax all weekend. After he closes the door, his backpack is thrown onto his couch as he goes into his kitchen and grabs a tangerine from the fridge before he heads down to his music room, twisting the doorknob and strolling in. He finishes eating all of the slices as he opens the top drawer of his desk and pulls out a pen and a small black leatherette notebook that contains all his finished and incomplete song lyrics. He decides to head outside on his balcony and sits on one of the chairs, taking in the nice weather. He opens the book to the last page he left off on and starts to thoroughly read each verse, adding any new ideas that have been swimming inside his mind. After all of it was written down, he lays back in his chair and quietly and slowly raps each section as he reads while his pen taps the beat against his knee.
While he was concentrating, he heard the intriguing sound of an acoustic guitar being played. Noticing the notes are coming from his new next door neighbor’s place, he gets up and goes to the other side of the balcony. He puts his notebook in his back pocket and begins to listen to the music, his fingertips softly tapping along as he sways to the beat. The piece was soft yet powerful and pensive, like it’s yearning for something that’s slightly out of reach. Soon, the calmful energy of the piece slowly fades and ends into a sweet comfortable silence.
Yoongi, unknowingly, continues to space out as he lightly taps the notes over and over as the sound of each strum danced in his head. That is until a soothing voice appears.
“I see you’ve been listening”
Yoongi’s eyes then go back to the other balcony and freezes, a handsome smirking boy was looking back at him. He was a few years older than him with beautiful dark brown hair that was pushed back slightly so the strands were away from his gentle but intimidating eyes. Yoongi is now intrigued.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to pry” Yoongi apologizes.
“You’re totally fine, I don’t mind having an audience” the boy reassured with an understanding grin “what’s your name?”
“Y-Yoongi” he stutters slightly.
“I’m Nathan, but most people call me Nate”
"Nice to meet you, Nate" his name rolling sweetly off of Yoongi’s tongue “If you don’t mind me asking, did you compose that song yourself?”
“Yeah I did, it still needs some work though” Nate chuckles as his deep brown eyes shine “what do you think of it?”
“It was wonderful” he admits honestly “it actually kinda gave me some ideas for my own songs”
“I overheard you playing the keyboard as I was unpacking yesterday and you're very talented, especially now that you also write your own music. What genre do you write for?” The elder asks curiously, dimples appearing on his cheeks.
Yoongi could feel his heart beat quicken as he tried his best to not combust at how cute the others dimples are “Rap for the most part but I also like to sing, mostly for something deep and emotional, you?”
“Mostly rock, along with acoustics also. Maybe we can compare notes sometime” Nate suggests, giving Yoongi a playful smirk.
“Maybe” Yoongi snickers, smiling shyly.
