Quackity POV

I raced past villagers.

Heart hammering in my chest.

Breathing shallow. If I didn't get home on time Mother would kill me. "Afternoon Sharon!" I yell as I pass the blond-haired baker. She raised a hand in greeting. Even if she was mute she was very kind. And one of the best bakers I've ever met. I quickly ran over the bridge that connected the mainland to the kingdom. "Afternoon Karl! Am I on time?" I breathed out. "Right on time Prince Quackity. Do not fret," he said with a smile. "Good," I said as I raced up the last few stairs to my room. There was going to be a gala tonight and Mother didn't think to tell me until the last minute. She always did that these days. Constantly changing dates that I previously had on my calendar, always hoped I would show up late so she could scold me. Not that I ever gave her a chance. And after Father's death, it just got worse. Not only did my brother George throw himself into his studies, the former crowned Prince, my brother Eret, had disappeared the night of his coronation leaving but a note for me to find in my room with her favorite flower, a wilted rose, on top.

"Dear Brother Dearest,

By the time you read this note, I will be gone. I have left due to the stress and pressure of our so-called Mother. I am terribly sorry for leaving you, George, and Hannah there. But I had no choice in the matter. Fear not though brother. For I will find a way to keep you all safe while I am gone.

Your brother,

I shook my head to rid the thoughts of that dreadful night.
I stood in front of the double doors that led to the throne room whereas my Mother had summoned me. I took a deep breath. And opened the doors.
