Hello!

This is my first published short story, and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I always wanted to know what it was like to drown... I suppose my wish came true.

It was only ever with simple pondering that a kid would think about such a thing. I never meant anything by it. But that night at the shore was anything but simple and meaningless.

It was dark, and we weren't in our right minds. Could you blame us? After what we'd just found out, you'd want to rid yourself of it too. So off we went, intoxicated with blurred minds towards the chilling mystery that was the sea. All we wanted to do was feel the ripples, the minute waves that lapped against our palms. That's all we ever wanted.

No one was expecting her to never stop walking. It was as though she'd seen something out there... something only she could.

It doesn't really matter what she saw though. All that matters is that she continued walking, and no amount of slurred begging could stop her. And as the bubbles rose to the surface, I had to ask myself once more, what was it like to drown.

But, as they say, be careful what you wish for.
