Vampire bats live in Mexico, Central America, and South America. They like to live in dark places such as hollow trees, caves, old buildings, and old wells. They eat blood from mainly farm animals. They are nocturnal which means they act only at night not in the day. There are three different species of vampire bats, one, the common vampire, two, white-winged, and three the hairy-legged.

Hairy legged

Vampire bats are carnivores which means that they eat only meat. They mainly eat the blood of mammals including humans. The vampire bats use their nose to find the bloodstream in animals. When vampire bats attack sleeping animals, the target will not feel anything.

Vampire bats babies are called pups. Baby vampire bats weigh 5-7 grams. Adult vampire bats weigh 33 grams. Baby vampire bats are smaller than a teacup. The size of an adult vampire bat is 7.8 cm. The wingspan of vampire bats is 35 to 40 cm long. Their lifespan is about 9 years long. Vampire bats can fly up to 99 miles per hour or 159.325 kilometers per hour. Vampire bats rarely have twins usually they have 1 pup. Vampire bats live in groups.
