Everything was unnaturally silent around Jayden. He wasn't sure where he was, his surroundings were completely foreign and unfamiliar.
He was standing on a massive wall surrounding a vast grey city, the same city he had seen the night his father died. From the city's immense size he could easily picture thousands of people living within it. He looked below the wall and shuddered. He was shocked by how far he was from the ground, he could barely believe something this large could exist, it just wasn't possible.
The sun shone brilliantly in a deep blue sky. Surrounding the fortress was a vast plain covered in green grass that spread westward seemingly without end. In every other direction were towering mountains covered with lush forests.
A thought occurred Jayden. When he had been talking to Bardir a day ago he remembered the lunvarin saying something that sounded familiar. Now Jayden knew what his mind had tried to recall at the time. It was one word; Haven. His father had said the name, and so had Bardir.
Gabe wanted his older son to take the villagers to Haven. He also told his sons to trust the lunvarin. Everything he said sounded as if he knew there was going to be an attack on the village. As hard as it was to believe, Jayden was starting to believe his father had seen the future.
As he pondered these thoughts he noticed people shimmering into existence around him. Standing on the wall with him were countless people, to his amazement they were all different races. There were humans, goblins, elves; every race he had ever heard of was on the wall. Their faces were filled with grim, worried expressions as they focused on something on the grassy plains.
He followed their gaze and saw a large, mass of people covering the landscape in the distance. Above the massive cluster he noticed creatures flying in the sky, creatures too large to be birds. The people around him turned away from the spectacle on the plains and looked below the wall.
Below the wall were hundreds of figures as they poured out of the fortress gates. They followed a single individual who was walking ahead of everyone else. Jayden assumed the people were soldiers from the neatly made formations and black armor.
He returned his attention to the population on the open field as he realized it, too, was an army. The opposing militia was so far away it was hard to tell who or what they were. One detail he was certain of was the army on the field was much larger than the one marching out of the fortress.
The crowd on the wall suddenly grew restless as a minotaur beside Jayden pointed at the army in the distance. He looked in the direction where the minotaur was pointing and saw something unnatural forming in the sky. Darkness was forming above the opposing army, not clouds but darkness. As the shadow gathered the army in the distance charged the fortress.
A massive beam of light was suddenly shot from the smaller army. The blast was so blinding and fierce it put daylight to shame as it soared across the land. The ray crashed into the opposing militia with devastating force, easily cutting a path through the approaching threat.
Without warning lightning descended upon the defending army from the darkness. The shadow attacked with a blind vengeance, raining pure energy without any sense of mercy. With such a display of power the land was quickly overwhelmed by the sound of thunder.
Jayden watched in awe as the battle took place. Yet as he witnessed the powerful event everything around him began to grow dark. Soon he could no longer see, hear, or feel anything.
