Darsidian Myths, A Promise Heard

Chapter 12

Jayden scanned his surroundings and saw he was on a hill overlooking a vast open field. It stretched on and on, seemingly without end. Above him the sun was hidden in a sea of clouds, clouds that threatened to rain at any moment. The sound of rustling leaves approached his ears from behind, causing him to turn toward the noise. To his surprise there was a forest behind him that covered a large collection of ridges and mountains. As he surveyed the scenery he slowly began to recognize the environment. After a few seconds it finally occurred to him the mountains belonged to Borderland.

Once again he heard movement in the woods, this time it was much closer.

Stumbling out of the forest, a young woman appeared. She stood on the hill with Jayden and panted heavily as she studied her surroundings. Her long hair was unkempt and tangled as if she hadn't tended to it in days. The blue dress she was wearing was torn in places with grass and dirt stains tainting the once beautiful gown. It was obvious she had traveled far to receive such damage to her clothing. Yet as soon as Jayden saw her he was struck speechless. He recognized the girl. It was Sage, Lianna Sage.

As he stared at her he could barely believe his eyes. He was filled with so much emotion he didn't know what to think or say. He thought he would never see her again. Ever since his village had been attacked he assumed she had died. Yet by some miracle she was right in front of him. Seeing her alive made him feel like the happiest man in the world.

"Sage?" he called out hesitantly.

Sage turned toward him, her eyes widening with shock upon spotting him. Caught completely off guard, she stumbled backwards before falling onto the ground. She looked up at him, a look of total bewilderment upon her face. "Jayden?"

Without warning everything around Jayden began to fade into darkness. Whether he wanted to or not, he was waking up.
