The next morning, Holly woke up to find her forehead sticky with sweat. She had been having the same dream for a couple of nights. All she could remember was screaming, and someone falling. Then the dream ended abruptly- every single time.

She glanced at the clock. 5am.

Ughh.

Falling back onto the bed, she stared out of the window. Somehow, opening her eyes made her head hurt like hell, as if she’d just had a massive hangover. But no matter how hard she tried, she still couldn’t remember a single thing that happened last night. What exactly did she do to feel like shit in the morning? Just trying to think about it made her queasy.

The sky was still dark, with a faint bluish hue. It wouldn’t hurt to sneak out of the house, seeing it was a Saturday. Her mother woke up at 6 on the weekends before going out at 6.30 for work. Holly still had an hour to do something-probably something secretive.

Even if it was just strolling in the park so early she would be satisfied. Ever since her father left them she hadn’t been able to get any time alone. Most of the time, she was being suffocated by her overbearing mum. Slipping out of bed as quietly as she could, Holly changed into a plain white t-shirt and checkered shorts. She slung an old and fraying cardigan over her shoulders and left the house sneakily. Her mum would never notice anything.

It was so peaceful that Holly was scared everything was not real. Although she never tried waking up at 5, it was eerily quiet. Paranoid, she looked behind her.

No one was there. Taking a deep breath, she was starting to regret coming out so early. Even if something did happen to her no one would notice. But the thrill was always there. And Holly was pulled towards it, which was probably what made her do so many stupid things.

Dummy. Just calm down. Don’t act like a baby. You’re 15 for goodness sake.

Holly walked down the narrow pathway meant for bicycles, but she couldn’t care less. The air was filled with dew, which made everything smell chilly and crisp.

It was 5.15 am, and the sky was already turning into a lighter shade of blue. The stars were slowly fading, even though she knew that stars didn’t actually just fade like that. The sound of a shoe being dragged along the concrete pathway startled Holly.

Whipping her head backwards, the sound stopped immediately. She stared into thin air, imagining someone was standing there. But seconds passed, and nothing happened. She shrugged it off, and turned around, colliding into something-or perhaps a certain someone.

“Ouch! What-“ Holly looked up, only to see a familiar face looking back at her in amusement.

For a moment she was dumbfounded, lost in his blue eyes. The person cleared his throat, and she looked away awkwardly, not daring to maintain eye contact with him.

“Sorry.” She mumbled incoherently, trying to make a quick escape. But a hand shot out and grabbed her arm. “Don’t you remember me, my love?”

Holly froze. My love? Who the hell was he, calling her his “love”? And how did

he even appear out of nowhere? Turning around slowly, she looked up. He was so tall, at least 6 ft , skin so pale he could put Edward Cullen to shame, unruly blonde hair and a pair of sapphire blue eyes girls would kill for. “Like what you see?”  He smirked, showing off a set of white teeth.  “What!?” Holly’s reaction was sudden, quick, as if she had something to hide. Her cheeks flushed, but she hoped that it was dark enough not to be seen.

“What do you mean? Do I know you?”

“Well, duh. We met before, remember? Our secret rendezvous in your bedroom?” The person wriggled his eyebrows suggestively.“And you looked so frightened then. I must have scared the shit out of you.”

He silently laughed to himself, for a moment forgetting that Holly was standing right in front of him, listening to him saying his thoughts out aloud.

“I think you must have mistaken me for someone else. I’m sorry.” Holly put her hands in her pocket and strode off in the opposite direction without looking like she was desperate to get as far as possible away from the creepy guy.

One thing was sure- never go for walks at 5am in the morning again.
