Holly had always been different. Well not as in “different” physically, but in another way “different”. Born in a small country town, Holly had always been sheltered from the big cities, where cunning people were waiting to spring on you. As quoted by her mother, “The city is far too complicated” for her. One step , and Holly would have been like a lamb sent to the slaughterhouse, never coming back, tumbling into the spirals of darkness.

For the past 15 years, her life flashed past, unnoticed by others because of her plain looks. 5 ft tall(more like short), brownish hair and sea green eyes were the only words to describe her, nothing less, nothing more.

People always said her eyes were special; they weren’t actually green, neither blue. And there was always a peculiar look on her face, as if she knew much more than she ought to.

Well actually hidden behind those eyes was a deep dark secret. Maybe a introduction should be done to let you know more about her. Born on the 13 December, Holly had a rough childhood. Her mother, a single mom, had miscarriages for 3 times before Holly was born. Thus, it was obvious to say that Holly’s mom had gone through a lot of hardships.

Raising her up was not an easy feat too, Holly’s mom, was a cashier. Running to and fro from the supermarket back home several times always took a toll on her. Insisting on raising Holly single-handedly, she had to juggle her job and her child.

Holly, a weak child since birth, had been facing many health problems until a couple of years ago. She wasn’t that close to her mom, thus explaining the secret she had been keeping for a year.

Holly, unlike other normal teenagers, had the ability to see things that weren’t there. No, not ghosts, but magical creatures, like werewolves, vampires and demons.

But to tell the truth, Holly didn’t like it a single bit. Seeing stuffs that weren’t here, and having nightmares about it, the so called “gift” was starting to get pretty annoying. Sometimes she would see vampires roaming the street, going to parties in weird costumes, or werewolves crouching behind a dark alley, probably enjoying their dead prey.

She wasn’t intending to take it to her grave, although there was still a long way to go. And this one simple person ruined it all.

1am in the morning

Holly tossed and turned on the bed, beads of perspiration trickling down her forehead. She stopped, suddenly, and her eyes flew wide open.  Soft footsteps could be heard, and Holly strained her eyes, trying to figure out who it was.

Well I hope whoever that is, is probably one of the neighbors. Holly rolled her eyes and tried going back to sleep. A “POP!”  sound reverberated through her head as a dark figure appeared in her room. Shocked, Holly let out a muffled yelp before tumbling down her bed. A low chuckle escaped from the unknown figure as it walked towards Holly. Frantically, she reached for the table lamp and switched it on.

“Who are you?!” Holly squinted her eyes at the sudden light source coming from the table lamp. The figure turned out to be a teenage boy, about 18 years old, with fairly pale skin, dirty blonde tussled hair and sapphire eyes. Holly reached for the nearest item and pointed it at the boy, which turned out to be an owl figurine.

“Tsk tsk. I wouldn’t do that if I were you. I’m guessing it means something to you.” The boy clucked his tongue and shook his head in mockery.
