It came morning.
Wuxian was the first to wake up, head throbbing heavily. He cups his forehead wincing at the shape pain of the hangover finally sinking in.
But before he can sit from laying down on the cold floor, a weight on his stomach stopped him. His eyes immediately darted to the person in mind he suspected is the who he is sleeping beside.
His eyes bulged upon seeing who it was despite expecting him. His heartbeats quicken, cheeks flushing red at the image of them sleeping beside each other. Then his eyes went even wider when he realized the events of last night. The memories of lips touching each other and lidded eyes staring at each soul came rushing back as if cold water is being poured all over him.
Despite the screams of his inner self to enjoy the warmth, to savor the memory that will surely be impossible to experience in the future, he needs to withdraw or the latter might wake up from their embarrassing position, and if he does wake up, it would be awkward for them both, or worse he'll avoid him forever.
Of course, he doesn't want that, even if he doesn't have a chance at least he wanted to be friends with him without awkwardness looming over them.
And so he released himself as carefully as possible not to wake the deep sleep of the latter. Then he stood from the floor, successfully not waking up Wangji.
After finally standing on his feet, his eyes wander the whole mess they had made. He sighs upon seeing scattered beer cans and opened bag of chips that are mostly half eaten. But a smile immediately crept on his face when it darted to the man on the floor.
Maybe it's not half bad sleeping on the cold floor with the subject of his heart's malfunctions.
.
He started cleaning the scattered emptied cans and bags of opened chips, followed by picking the remaining crumbs since he can't use the vacuum for the two is still fast asleep, then he put them into a trash bag before setting them aside neatly.
After which, he went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for all of them, whipping something that could cure their hangover despite feeling the hangover himself. After finishing them, he set them on the table.
Then he storms out of Xichen's apartment, leaving a simple thank you message on a piece of paper and an apology that he needs to go to school that's why he left before they can wake up.
.
An hour had passed after Wuxian's departure, Wangji woke up. Just like Wuxian, his head was throbbing painfully from the hangover. Despite his intoxicated self from last night, he clearly remembers everything that happened before he blacks out to sleep.
He unconsciously touched his lips, the feeling of Wuxian's lips still vividly imprinted into his head. His heart immediately skipped a beat, though it was not showing on his face, his ears turning red is telling the truth.
"Wangji?" Xichen suddenly slurs awake which startled Wangji from his daze.
He immediately removed his fingers from touching his lips and turns his head in the direction of Xichen.
"Hm, did Xian leave already?" he asked, voice hoarse as he cups his head.
Wangji wanders his eyes around the small apartment, finding no trace of Wuxian around. He nods, "I think so," he answers, forcing himself to stand on his feet despite his aching head and trudge his way to the kitchen to make their breakfast.
But before he can start rummaging, he found a note tucked under the plate on the dining table together with some food that he suspects Wuxian prepared. A small smile escaped his lips upon reading the pretty handwriting of the latter and the thoughtful side of him in preparing breakfast for them.
"He left a note, and prepared breakfast," he said to the older and the older immediately rushed to the dining table and snatched the little paper from Wangji.
Xichen chuckles fondly at his childhood friend's handwriting. He then folds them neatly before keeping them away in his pocket.
Despite the disappointment of not being able to keep the note for himself, Wangji just shook off his regret and looked away to focus his attention on the food on the table.
It has already gone cold but nothing reheating couldn't do. And so they reheat the food before indulging themselves in the simple yet delicious breakfast Wuxian prepared for them.
.
After eating their breakfast, a call suddenly interrupted them. Wangji immediately grabbed his phone and answered whoever that is, not even looking at the caller id.
"Wangji" a voice erupted upon getting the call through which Wangji immediately recognized.
"Yes, father?" he replied, Xichen's eyes fixated on him as he confusedly eyed him at the mention of their father.
Their father laughs happily from the other line, "I have something for you to work on at Turkey, the company needs someone to supervise since our rivals had been attacking some of our sales. I need someone I trust to work on that," he declares in finality, not leaving a room to debate.
Wangji gulps, "But father, my college—"
The old man immediately interrupted him before he can finish, "I already fixed your transfer to the college in that country, you don't need to worry," he reassures.
"But I don't think, I can be trusted with such a big task, father," he reasoned out, considering what will he leave in this country.
Their father scoffs, "I trust you that you can do it, child. Now pack up your things, you'll be on the plane at dawn." he ordered before the call dropped without being able to object.
His heart dropped at that moment. Just when he was able to recognize his own happiness and feelings, it all vanished into thin air. He regrets not being able to confess what he feel for Wuxian last night. The kiss that holds a thousand emotions he wanted to express to the other was left unsaid.
He sets down his phone, his face dejected, and his heart aching by the thorns of unrequited love.
"What happened?" The older asked worriedly, taking his attention.
He smiled fakely as he scoffs, "I'll be at the Turkey branch, said father," he started. "I'll leave the country tomorrow," he added, voice full of ache.
Xichen frowns, "Huh? what happened there?" he asked confusedly.
"Our rival has been attacking our sales, father needs someone to supervise," he declares, every word leaving his mouth leaving a sour taste.
He just hopes he can at least declare his feelings and leave them here. He sighs exasperated, "Well, maybe that was what's waiting for me. I'll see you around, gege," he bids, standing from the dining table. "I'll be leaving at dawn," he added, sighing once again as he grabs his bag from the living room.
"I'll visit you sometime, lil' bro!" Xichen declares with a smile of reassurance, "You got this!" he cheered, thinking for his brother that he would be able to learn so much from there and hoping that when he comes back, they were already at the same level.
The younger only nods though the older completely oblivious of the saddened face of the younger. "Thanks! See ya'!" he bids before finally leaving the door.
