"It's only a rainbow if there's gold at the end of it," some said. "It's only a rainbow if all the colors are there," others said. Mary disagreed. She thought that any time there were more than three colors in the sky at the same time, was a rainbow.

That's why every time the sun set or rose, it was considered a rainbow, and she went outside to admire nature's beauty. It's why most of her friends were books. It's why she decided to live in a cottage in the forest and away from people. It's why she was considered a witch in her village and fled.

She did turn into a witch, she supposed. If you considered witches to be haunting beautiful, intelligent young women. Every time a man found her cottage in the woods, they thanked her for the meal she gave them and tried to bed her and give her no choice. She killed them all of course. And buried their bodies to use as fertilizer for her garden. So no one ever found out what happened to those men. And no one ever would.
