        Labrador retrievers are the most popular breed of dog in the United States. They come in 3 main colors that are recognized by the AKC, which are: Black, Brown, and yellow. They have a life expectancy of 11-13 years, though  down labs tend to have a shorter life than other colors.
        Labrador retrievers are also known as 'Labs'. They can weigh between 65-80 lbs, and are incredibly affectionate. They are great with kids and babies, and tend to be good with other dogs.
        Labs were originally bred to retrieve ducks that have been shot by their handler, or help/accompany fishermen. They are a member of the sporting group, and are short haired. They do shed heavily, though.
         Labs were bred in Canada, In the area of Newfoundland, not Labrador! They love the water and swimming. They have extremely high energy levels that only fade at high ages. Training classes are highly recommended for lab puppies.
          Labs are predisposed to elbow dysplasia, hip dysplasia, benign tumors, Patellar luxation, Arthritis, Onesity, and Hypothyroidism.
          Labrador retrievers have an incredible temperament for service dog work, and are highly, highly recommended for almost any tasks. They are used by many service dog programs, including guide dogs of America.
