Pomeranians are small, fluffy dogs that only weigh around 3-7 pounds when fully grown. They live around 12-16 years. They do tend to be yappy, but can be trained out of it. They are moderately good with children and other dogs.
Pomeranians are actually decended from sled dogs. They are the smallest spitz breed, and weren't bred for any specific purpose.
Pomeranians are good for smaller areas due to their size, but they still need plenty of exercise and playtime. They don't do very well in extreme temperatures, but can be kept in places with temperature extremes when their owner takes proper steps to keep them warm or cool.
Pomeranians are not good pets for people who constantly travel, or are away from home a lot. They are, however, great for people who work from home or have shorter work days.
Pomeranians do have high grooming needs due to their long, plush coats. They have a low prey drive, and a low potential for running away from home.
Pomeranians and Pomeranian mixes are recommended for psychiatric and medical alert service dog work due to their small, portable size and handler loyalty.
