Empty, that’s what he felt. Simply empty.

The sights quickly flashed before his eyes, the train whistled in his ears. Griffin sighed, slouching in his seat, patiently awaiting his newest journey. The invisible man pondered while he was on his train, thinking about the endless possibilities of his abilities, having already exhausted many of them. It was a breakthrough at the start, such a scientific novel that no one else had achieved anything like it. There is so much to do, being invisible to the human eye, yet the thrill seemed to have dulled over the years.

This left annoyance in its place as inconvenience seemed to tower over everyday life. Being able to do what one wishes comes at a sacrifice of clothing, the cold of bareness seemed to start seeping in his soul. Wearing clothes comes with an extra layer of uncomfortable bandages. There were no breaks for walking among regular humans.

New locations seemed to fill the burdens. He’s made a long way from the United Kingdom. While it was peculiar to have a bandaged man traveling Europe, it was the best situation there was. Often there was no choice. Griffin left stirs in most towns and villages he resided in, which brought a certain joy to his mischievous heart. Being well known despite regulars being unaware of what and who he was, such a feat in his mind. The messes Griffen left behind could be as innocent as misplaced items or as heinous as murder.

Of course it was not all his life purpose to be malevolent, he still held scientific purpose close to his heart. Despite what he has already achieved, the work of a scientist is never completed in his mind, he’ll find new breakthroughs no matter what it takes.

The new location chosen for experimentation and havoc was a town in Romania. Brașov, filled with legends and stories. Thrill fills his heart again, thinking about the infamy the invisible man could cause once more. Along with that, the village has had tales of creatures inhabiting the country's woods. Depending on how this visit will go, he might just be among those tales soon. The movement of the train stopping halted Griffin’s thoughts. Getting off quickly, he wasted no time.

It did not take him too long to find an inn. He ignored the stares of the locals and swiftly continued on his path.

Faced with a new location, he adjusted just fine to his temporary living space, with little questions from the occupied woman running the inn. She left him alone just fine in his room, where Griffin would remain til dusk. Looking over his countless books of scientific nonsense as he has done hundreds of times, he could not wait to find more breakthroughs. He always sought the unknown. With that in his mind, he decided to roam the village for interesting sights. Wrapping his bandages back on, Griffin made his way to the village.

While out, Griffin sat down at the nearest cafe he could find, the orange-pink sky being overtaken by the sheet of cold navy night, a shiver ran down his spine. Despite the layers of bandages, the night still managed to wrap its cold hands around him.

It was a beautiful village, there were trees that go on for miles accompanied by mountains. The landscape was such a sight, a tragedy he couldn’t stay there for long.

With his best Romanian accent, he asked the server for some tea. The server tells him that they are closing soon. Better not to stick around after hours. Waving her off, he continued to meddle in his thoughts. But one local man warns the invisible man of the dangers of staying out late in the area. Not appreciating the, to him, patronizing tones from the inhabitants he has met Griffin shrugs him off as well as a superstitious individual.

“Little does the man know he should steer clear of me.”

Griffin took notice of the dispersing patrons of the small village, humble folk. They were all walking home, whispering among themselves. All had a glint of fear in their eyes. As night grew on, no one seemed to pay mind to his eccentric appearance. Confusion strung his thoughts briefly, wondering why the social curfew was placed. Not bothering with the bill, he continued his stroll.

The night was young, crickets began their songs, that being the only sound that filled the streets. Griffin’s footsteps were now the only one clicking, shivers continued to run up his back once more. The sensation of eyes on him grew stronger with every step. He swifts through the mist, eventually seeing a dark figure contrasting the pale light. It was a man headed in the opposite direction. A stranger that stood out from the others, glistening features, as pale as the moon that shone on him.

He was nothing that Griffin had ever seen before; ethereal beauty, it was difficult not to continue staring. Jet black hair, piercing cool blue eyes fixated on the path in front of him. Standing tall and broad, the stranger looked like he could even be of elevated status. Griffin stopped dead in his tracks, noticeably so however the stranger did not seem to mind. The man passed Griffin without a second glance, he fueled Griffin’s curiosity, he noticed the man was the only other one promenading on the street.

“Could he be important?”

The invisible man was stricken by a new goal set in mind. Stalking was no new thing to him. Once the man was far enough, he pursued. Perhaps if he did catch him he could get answers about this strange town.

Sleuthing, taking cat-like steps, he followed as far behind as he could. The stranger did not break his pace. Griffin wondered where he could be going at this hour. After a few minutes, another person appeared, a woman who appeared to be a lost tourist. At that, Griffin stopped and looked at whether they would interact or not. The woman waved the cloaked man down, assuming to inquire about her whereabouts. The stranger did not move, not at all. The invisible man held his breath and wondered why he’d stopped so suddenly.

Then, without a moment's notice, the man lunged at the woman. Faster than a bullet, the man went to put a hand covering her mouth.

Griffin looked in horror as he witnessed the vampiric attack of the man biting her jugular. Blood dripped down to the ground, first a few drops, then came a waterfall. Griffin took a step back from the scene. Hand over mouth to stiffen his breathing. The tales he had read and been warned of were unfolding in front of him.

He’d feel like a fool if he wasn’t in immediate danger.

He took a step back from the barbaric display, gravel shifting underneath his foot. The noise was enough to alert the vampiric man in front of him.

Within the shadows, Griffin looked at the man with his glowing red eyes. Pearly white fangs covered with his victim’s blood. It was beautiful in some way, like a predator. The man bared his teeth at him. Primal fear overtook his body. The vampire let go of the woman, who was now gasping for air. Her body hit the floor with a thud, signalling the bandaged man to run.
