"Aslan, won't tell me any thing about Susan. I know that he knows where she is. Edmund, will you stop eating for one second so I can talk to the only sibling I have left." Lucy glared at Edmund from across the breakfast table.
"What, I'm listening. And what did you think would happen? Like Peter said when we got here, Susan is not longer a friend to Narnia. That is something I've come to live with. Your not the only one who lost a sister Lu. Remember, she always was a little off put in Narnia. She hated magic, and she loved the world we came from. Let it go, she's not coming back." Edmund hated having to say it. But Lucy always had her head in the clouds, always thinking about her big sister. Both Peter and Ed had come to terms with Susan's choice to turn her back on Narnia.
But Lucy refused to think that Susan was really happy in their home world, after all, their parents were with them here. Susan would be alone, Lucy reasoned. They had to go back and bring her to Narnia.
Not to many people were happy about this. Caspian for one, he had been in love with Susan for years before he met his wife. Riepacheep was also against it, she had lost all favor in his eyes when Peter told him Susan would not be returning to Narnia. Ed was the only one who thought there was anything to be gained by going back. Well, Edmund and Tirian.
"He's a great guy, I wish Susan could meet him. Funny, I remember a time when I would have been afraid of him falling him in lover with her. Now I don't care if everyone in Caspian's line fell head over heals in love with her, I just want my big sister back." As Lucy thought this she didn't notice that Peter had come over until he gave her shoulder a small shake,
"Lu? Have you heard anything I've said? I asked if you wanted to join Caspian, Rilian, Edmund, Tirian and I on a hunt. We're going over to the western wood in the first Narnia." He meant the smallest and most outer Narnia in this world.
Lucy poked at her eggs, thinking about what would be best. On one hand she could stay here, mope all day and try without success to get information out of Aslan. Or she could go on a hunt with all friends, most of her family and maybe get to see Peter fall in the mud.
"Fine, just let me get dressed." Lucy stalked off. If she had looked back she would have seen Edmund give Peter a death glare as he asked what Peter was planning.
"All in good time, little brother."
.................................................................
Wind roaring in her ears, drowning out the sounds of pursuit as Lucy raced though the Western Wood on the back a Lillian, the fastest horse in Narnia.
The sun filtered though the tree tops and cast a golden glow on Lillian's deep red coat. Just a head there was a flash of white as the White Stag broke from cover. Lillian sped up, as tears streamed down Lucy's face from the wind.
They broke into a large clearing and Lillian stopped, chest heaving from the race. Lucy craned her head around, but couldn't see any sign of the stag.
The rest of her group burst from the line of trees a minute later. Tirian came over to her and grinned, "Lost him did you?"
"No, he lost me. Not the other way around." Lucy replied, then burst into laughter. Everyone joined her.
"Well, it doesn't matter who lost who, we still don't have the White Stag." Edmund said when he had gotten his laughter under control.
"Well, it doesn't matter who or what we lost, we can still have a good time and a good hunt." Caspian said, in his best imitation of Edmund. Which just started another round of hysterics.
When they had finally calmed down, Tirian suggested they explore the Western Wood. They slit into teams of two and agreed to meet back at the garden at dusk, each team with their own prize.
Lucy and Edmund were teamed up, with Caspian with Peter, Lilliandil was pared with Reepicheep. Tirian meanwhile was assigned to Rilian, Each team was given a direction, Lucy and Edmund went south, Lucy couldn't help think about her coration, when Aslan had said, "To the great southern sun, Queen Susan the gentle."
.................................
Lucy rode in silence for a long time, listening to the sounds of the wood. It was after several minutes when she realized that she could hear music. Some one was singing a song that promised they would return, and because of that there was no reason to say good bye.
(the song is "the call" from Prince Caspian, don't judge me)
Lucy followed it, she could hear Edmund right behind her. As they got closer Lucy could feel something pulling at her heart. It was not unlike the feeling she got when she was near Aslan.
Up a head she saw a clearing, in it there was a figure grooming their horse. Lucy could tell the it was a woman, not only from the voice, but from the stance of the stranger. They had a slim figure and held themselves regally.
"Hello, who are?" Lucy hadn't to say anything, it just slipped out.
The figure whirled around, taking up a fighting stance.
"It's ok, we won't hurt you." Edmund said, holding up his hands, "We heard you singing and neither of us had heard such beautiful music before. Who are and where did u learn that song?"
"Who am I? You know who I am, Edmund, Lucy, you to knew me better than almost anyone. But not anymore, I am sorry, but I can't have you running to Peter." She threw a handful of dust from her pocket at them and before she knew it, Lucy was fast asleep on the forest floor.
......................................................
"Lucy?!?!? Lucy, are you ok? Peter, I think she's waking up." Lucy lifted her head groggily, and looked around. She was still in the clearing where she had seen the stranger, but there was no trace of them now. Lucy felt a hand on her shoulder and looked into the worried eyes of Tirain.
"Are you ok Lu?" he asked, his voice tight with worry.
"I'm fine. Where's Ed?"
"Over here." Lucy turned to see Ed leaning against a tree, sipping water from his hunting skin.
She met his eyes, asking a silent question, he shook his head so slightly she almost missed it, so he hadn't told Peter about the stranger, and he was asking her to do the same, for now Lucy deiced to play a long. But tomorrow was going to be a brand new day, and who knew what kind of surprises were in store for them.
