"Lu, we need to tell him. He is the HIGH king of Narnia for pete's sake. Do u realize how much trouble we will be in if he finds out." Edmund paced restlessly in Lucy's chambers as the discussed what to do.
"But he won't find out, not if we don't say anything. You won't will you?" Lucy didn't know why, but she didn't like the idea of Peter finding out about the black rider. There was something about them that seemed familiar. "I feel like this would only serve to worsen his mood, Ed. you know he doesn't like the idea of us doing anything dangerous."
"With good reason." Edmund glared at his little sister for a moment then collapsed in a chair by the fire. From her spot against the wall, Lucy thought he looked old, and tired with the light dancing across his face. "We know her, don't we?"
"Her?" Lucy had been thinking of the rider as a man. But the more she considered it, the more she agreed with Ed. "Yes, I think we do. There was something so familiar about her. I was like......"
"Like what, Lu?" Edmund was at her side in an instant. His eyes were worried as he looked his little sister over. She looked ready to faint.
"Like we grew up with her. Ed, what if it's Susan. Susan back in Narnia. Maybe she changed her mind and Aslan let her back in?"
This not what Ed had been expecting, "No, Lu. You know that's not possible. She is no longer a friend of Narnia."
"You sound like you don't want her back. You sound like Peter." Lucy felt anger rising in her. Was she the only one that wanted Susan back? Did the others even care? "Do you want her back, Ed? Do you?"
"Yes, of course I do. But there is no way she could be back. You know it's not possible. Why do you always have to do this? You always run after things that aren't there, and when you get hurt Peter and I have to pick up the pieces. Why, Lu? Why are trying to hurt yourself again."
Lucy backed away. When they returned to Narnia she had gone looking for the wardrobe and lamppost, only to find them gone, Mister Tumliss explained that they were both from earth, and only pure things of Narnia could exist here. That night she'd told Peter and Edmund that she been hoping Susan might find her way here through the wardrobe. She'd cried her self to sleep that night, and the next, and the next. Edmund knew that bring up the memory would only hurt her. He had purposely hurt her.
"Get out, now." Lucy's voice was like stone.
"Lu, I didn't mean it. Please?" Ed's hands were in the air, his eyes pleading.
"GET OUT!!!!!!" She screamed, throwing a vase on the table next to her at him. He ran from the room. Once in the hall he made a split second decision.
....................................
"Peter, can I talk to you?" Edmund poked his head inside Peter's door.
"Of course, Ed. What can I do for you." Peter asked, smiling.
"You can listen. You see, Lu and I didn't tell you everything about what happened in the woods."
......................................
"Lucy, we need to talk to you. Now." I looked up at the door. I had locked it the night before because I hadn't wanted to talk to anyone and my feelings hadn't changed in the slightest.
"Lu, we know your in there. Edmund told me what really happened in the woods yesterday. I want you to know that I am very disappointed in you. You both should have told me the instant you woke up."
Anger began to boil in my blood. Edmund had told Peter. He had promised he wouldn't. "I'll never trust him again, never." She muttered. standing up and walking to the window. Her arms were folded over her chest as she glared out at the green lawns and winding paths in the gardens.
Don't hate Lucy. Love, that's the secret to true beauty. Susan's voice echoed in her head. Easy for you to say. You're beautiful. Every man was chasing you. But you were never unkind to me or to Edmund. You fought with all of us. But you never hurt us. until the day we had to leave without you.... Lucy's thoughts bounced around inside her head, completely blocking out Peter's yelling. As she starred out at the gardens, she could have sworn she saw the black figure dart be hide a hedge.
.......................................
Susan could not believe she was sneaking in the palace. Aslan had warned that it had a garden in side and inside that garden was another Narina, bigger than the first one, and inside of that there was another castle with another garden with another Narina inside that one. He had warned it went on for ever and not to go wondering inside any gardens that were hedged in. "Get to the armory, there's a door on the west side of the castle. Use it."
Now, sneaking in there the gardens, trying to figure out were west was, she couldn't help but think about someone seeing her. Four special someone's. If she ran into Peter, Edmund, Lucy or Caspian she would be in big trouble. Wait, five someone's, she forgot about Riepercheep.
There, she saw a plant with a lion shaped flowers. It was called an Aslan, and the flowers always pointed west. She was on the wrong side of the palace. And it would be getting light in a few hours. She had to hurry.
