"That was as romantic as ever," Naida Riverheart swayed her waving, sea blue hair over her shoulder with a slight smile.
Azari Firedancer chuckled in a way Emily would describe as a windchime in a light November breeze "That's because you were here Ni," but she sadly sighed "Though, it would be better if Emily was here. She's the most romantic person I know."
Naida nodded as she grasped one of Azari's cozy warm hands. The water elf rested her head on the fire elf's shoulder (despite being the same height) as they walked "Do you know why she doesn't come too?"
Azari shook her head while squeezing Nida's hand with a sigh "No I don't. Wish I did though." Azari's iconic smirk returned "What do you think the guys are doing without the light? Aira said she'll fix it in the morning so we won't have it tonight."
Nida yawned "Probably not much," Naida yawned again.
"Someone's tired," Azari would've laughed if she didn't yawn herself.
Nida fake coughed "Hypocrite."
"I don't need to ask, but did Emily teach you that?" Azari chuckled again when she felt Naida nod. Their girlfriend is so sarcastic but so sincere at the same time. Are all humans like that? Azari looked up with a smile spotting the all-familiar treehouse. Despite being destroyed and rebuilt several times, it still stood strong and tall. The perfect home, unlike anything else in Elvendale. The lovers took a deep breath of the ever-changing fruity scent that occupied the clearing that they had walked into. When they just about reached Fraron's house their ears picked up a few things. They heard a few owl hooting, the wind whistling past their sensitive ears, and...hold on there's something else.
Nida lifted her head and held her breath. She felt her ears twitch when she heard it again "Did you hear that, Zar?"
Azari nodded as her ears visibly twitched obviously trying to listen. Her inquisitive but cautious face fell and her large pointed ears drooped when she recognized It; Nida's reaction was along the same line. They had heard it a few times before (most notably when she was pushed off the waterfall and when Sophie was taken) but this was louder than ever before.
The two instantly reached for the door "Emily!"

Emily Jones laid against a wall corner with her knees to her chest, sobbing while using her human wonder rectangle for light. But it wasn't enough, the room was still covered in darkness. The human brought her olive green eyes up when she heard the door open and caught her breath in her throat when she saw them. Azari and Nida stood in the doorway. Azari was the first to react and somehow skidded right to the human's side without thinking. She knelt down but hesitated to pull Emily into a fiery hug, instead choosing to give her a small wave. "Hey, little ears...you alright?"
Emily didn't hesitate and launched herself into the girl's arms sobbing into the crook of her neck. Azari gently wrapped her arms around the girl being careful not to make any sudden movements.
Naida would've probably smiled at the site of her girlfriends but she shook her head into gear and walked over herself, picking up the discarded instant painting maker as she sat down "Hey Em."
Emily looked over her shoulder and reached for the water elf. Nida met her halfway and interlaced her and Emily's fingers.
"What happened?" Azari asked with concern evident in her voice.
Emily continued to sob into the crook of Azari's neck but shook her head.
"Emily," Naida released Emily's hand and gingerly placed a hand on her back. The human gasped slightly at the sudden contact but remained calm. "Please...talk to us."
Emily continued to sob but she pulled away from Azari and used her red and black checked flannel to wipe her eyes despite shaking like her life depended on it. She took a shaky breath and managed "I...Can't."
"Why?" Naida tried to ask but was interrupted by Emily's crying getting louder. The all-knowing book had turned off bringing the room into complete darkness. Nida turned the object in her hand over and glanced between the two (who were back to snuggling) and the unelven shape that lost its light.
The realization hit her like a chariot "You're scared of the dark. That's why you're crying."
Azari looked at the terrified girl in her arms. It made the most sense; not only with Emily's reaction just now but with Emily's actions all evening and the fact some elves have a fear of the opposite element (she may not fully be an elf but it still makes sense). Nida rushed to try and turn the mysterious light back on managing to do everything but. Azari swiftly snapped her fingers lighting a small fire in her hand causing Emily's crying to slow down slightly.
Azari patted the girl's back "So you're scared of the dark?" even though her voice didn't have a hint of even a snicker Emily's shaking got faster "H-hey we're not judging you. We want to help. We'll always be here for you, Em."
Emily tried to swallow the lump in her throat but instead nodded into Azari's chest. So she was scared.
Azari's and Nida's mind started running around like headless chickens trying to come up with a plan. Azari's orange eyes suddenly flickered as she smiled "I think I have an Idea. Nida?" Azari looked up for the first time since this began "Can you hold her?"
Nida nodded but turned her head "What are you about to do?"
Azari winked while trying to pry Emily off of her chest "You'll see." Azari looked down at the human "Will it be alright if you held onto Sea Salt over there for a bit?"
Emily sheepishly nodded as she tried to release her hands...and failed miserably.
