It's been 6 years since the strike. Eventually Kathrine began working for her father, alongside Jack, writing for his drawings. Although it took a lot of pleading on Jacks part, she eventually gave in. And on this particular summer evening one could find them slaving away at their respective pieces grinding to get them done before morning light.
*click click click* *click click click* goes the sound of Kathrines typewriter as she strains to get out each word. Each sentence more perfect then the one previous, capturing the imagery of each building in perfect detail.
"Almost..." *click click click* "there!" Kathrine exclaims to herself proudly typing out her byline under the finished piece.
"Uggggggghhhh I can't do this no more, your fathers gonna kill me!" Jack let's out a cry scribbling so hard Kathrine could hear the lead rubbing against the page.
"oh stop it! your being so dramatic. I'm sure its looks great, let me see?" Kathrine peeks over her boyfriends shoulder at his incredibly detailed drawing of the times square, made to accompany her story covering the new land mark. "It looks fine Jack."
"Yeah, it looks fine, I need it perfect."
"Jaaaack its ok you don't need to be perfect."
"Says the daughter of one of the most famous newspaper publishers in all of New York."
Kathrine sighs rolling her eyes. Sometimes there was nothing you could do to convince Jack that his work was done no matter how incredible it was.
"I got it!" Jack exclaims, vigorously scratching the page with his eraser "there we go." he grins, after scribbling for a few minuets, holding the page out in front of him admiring his work. although it was just pencil he somehow managed to have added a beautiful sunset onto the drawing.
"Oh Jack, its Beautiful!" Kathrine gasps in awe falling even more in love with him.
Putting down the page Jack scoots in closer to his girlfriend, and Kathrine laying her head on his shoulder, they watch the sun set behind the New York city skyline from atop their rooftop living quarters. Vibrante but calm explosions of pinks, yellows, and oranges engulfing them in the magic of the city. A cool crisp breeze drifting through the sky causing Kathrine to scooch in closer to Jack. Their body's fitting perfectly inside one another, keeping each other warm. And yawning she falls asleep to the sound of Jacks breathing underneath the twinkling stars.
