"Remember students," the government appointed instructor droned on, "You are Lights. Born of the superior faction. We won the Second Civil War and defeated the wretched Darks. You are here today in order to be placed in a job that is in the career field that you and your government have chosen and approved of. You bright, young adolescents have chosen the field of government and military. Some of you will be tested for strength, others intelligence and others," his eyes slid to me "to be politicians and to see if you have what it takes to be a leader. To rule fairly. To praise and advance the Lights and damn the Darks."

I knew why he looked at me. I was at the top of my class at New London Institute of Higher Education. My mother was world renown Laura Ashby, a bionuclear engineer, she helped developed the cure to cancer as well as a vaccine for AIDs, wiping out both diseases. My father... Well my father was Vice President of the United Countries. The United Countries was pretty much all of the previously named seven continents. When the Second Civil War broke out and a kinda turned into World War Three the world was spilt in two. Lights and Darks. Lights had the policy of being equal to all, at first. The Darks wanted everyone to work for what they wanted. Slavery accepted. The Lights came out victorious. Later a group of Separatists seceded from the United Countries. The Separatists control much of the land that was at one point Asia, Africa, the Middle East and some of Indonesia. The rest of the world belongs to the United Countries.

I was applying for a job as a immigration sorter. I choose people from background checks if they would be applicable and beneficiary to Light society. Very rarely did Separatists or Darks make it in, but someone has to go over the applications, Light Society needed every productive human.

"Ember Ashby!" I was snapped from my day dream about what it would be like to finally be out of school. And on my own away from my overbearing parents.
"Uh y-Yeah?" I stuttered slightly disoriented. The instructor was looking at me with an annoyed expression.
"Ember Ashby, it's your turn." He pointed at the cold, metallic doors which lead to the exam room where my future would be decided. I stood. I flicked my dirty blonde hair behind my shoulder, straightened my knee length floral skirt and proceeded to the doors. My heart was pounding. My parents had preped me for this my entire life. Countless hours of tutoring and school all leading up to this one moment. My hand shook as I placed my finger on the scanner, the door promptly open as an empty computerized female voice spoke my name, gender, age and status.
"Ember Mary Ashby. Female. Eighteen. Light. Please continue to the testing chamber" I walked down the hall. The clank of my shoes was magnified by the cold silver floor. Ahead I saw a blue glow, the familiar light of a government computer. A testing computer. This was it.
