AIKO'S POV

26 August 2039

"Yawn~ Good morning Kido," I said and yawned, then opening my eyes, I moved back in shock, Tsugumi and Ayase were in the room with us. Tsugumi had her finger on her mouth, signalling me to keep quiet, then pointing at Kido. I turned around and saw that Kido was sleeping.

I blushed. 

We were sleeping together in bed?

I got out of bed. Tsugumi took my hand and brought me out of the room with Ayase.

"Where the hell were you last night? Why are you two here? More importantly, why are you sleeping in the same bed together?" Ayase asked.

"This is Kido's old house, he brought me here and told him about his past... I guess I got too tired and fell asleep..." I replied.

"Well the good thing is that both of you are safe," Tsugumi said, "Come on! I prepared breakfast."

"Wait what?" I gasped and looked around. The house looked brand new... How?

"Oh, I entered a program to clean this place up. It really sucks seeing it so dirty, especially since it is a mansion, I didn't know Kido's family was so rich!" Tsugumi replied.

"That's cool," I replied, "Wait. How did you find us?"

"Simple, I hacked into the security cameras around this are and found you guys!" Tsugumi said and handed me a plate of waffles, "Eat up! We have to get back to the base."

"All right~" I said and took a bite.

"What's this? A reunion? Sounds like fun," Kido walked into the dining room.

"I see you are awake. Kenji," Ayase said.

Tsugumi charged up at Kido and yelled, "MISSILE KICK!" She then attacked Kido. Kido dodged it and Tsugumi hit into the wall. She shouted at Kido angrily, "What the hell dude! We just redid this wall!"

"Yeah, I've realized. Just what the hell are you two doing here?" Kido asked.

"Eh? Kido don't be so mean~ They helped redo the house!" I said.

"Yeah, I've noticed. It was better before though..." he whined softly and took a piece of waffle from my plate.

"Hey! That's mine!" I whined.

"Too bad," he teased and stuck his tongue out, "So why are the two of you here again?"

"We are here to get you both back to base," Ayase explained.

"Oh? Is that so," Kido replied, "Is Gai back?"

"Yes and he is very very mad at you Kido," Tsugumi replied.

"Eh? Why?" Kido asked.

"I have no idea," Tsugumi replied.

"Well to find out, you better get back to base," Ayase said.

"All right. All right. Geez I know that," Kido said.

Kido is in Gai's room, I wonder what they are talking about. Hope Kido isn't in trouble... Especially if it's because of me...

I sat outside the room, hoping to overhear what they were saying.

"You and Aiko are getting to close to each other. You understand the problem? You can't develop feelings for her. You are supposed to be an emotionless killer," I heard Gai say.

I gasped. and wondered what Kido would say. Except his first reaction wasn't a speech, it was a laugh. An evil one... Then he replied, "Like I would like her. I am just doing my job that you assigned, her bodyguard. Nothing more. It would be ruining me if I fell for her."

I felt it. The touch of betrayal. Anger and sadness mixed together to form a horrible flavour.

But. Why? I thought we were friends? A tear escaped my eye. Why?

I held my hands up and over my face to cover the tears and I ran, but everything was blurry and end up tripping and falling down the stairs. Tsugumi ran to help me, but due to my anger, I yelled at her. Asking her to back off. Tsugumi looked confused and asked what was wrong. I got up in pain and ran to my room. I sat on my bed and took off the hair clip the boy I had so trust in gave and threw it straight into the dustbin. Then I saw the teddy bear he gave me yesterday and threw it onto the floor. I was mad, yet confused. What he said felt like a gunshot fired straight at my heart. It killed a part of me.

But why? Did I actually love him?

There was a knock on the door, then a question by a familiar, yet dreaded voice, "Aiko? Are you in there? Is everything okay?" It was Kido.

"Go away..." I said quietly.

I think he heard me because he then said mischievously, "I am coming in." The door opened slowly.

No... Don't come in... Don't... I was terrified. Terrified to feel this way. Or was it the fear to be lonely again? I am confused!

He opened the door and walked towards me, "My my. Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today? Was my bed not comfy? Or are you still mad at for stealing your breakfast?"

I kept silent for a while, then I asked, "Am I nothing but an assignment?"

"Huh? What are you talking about?" Kido asked.

"Would it really ruin you to even be my friend?" I asked.

"You... Heard?" Kido asked uncertainly.

"Why, of course. If I didn't, how would I know of how you really thought of me?" I asked.

"Look, I am sorry," he replied.

"Sorry, won't get you anywhere. Especially in this situation..." I said. Then I looked away, saying, "When did you become so cruel Kido? So emotionless? You just don't get it..." I felt my gun in my pocket and slowly took it out. I pointed it at Kido.

"Are you really going to shoot me?" Kido asked, "Your friend?"

Friend... Now why does that word sting me so much?

"We are not friends!" I shouted and pulled the trigger. Kido dodged it and gasped, "Wow you really were going to shoot me. How sad..." The bullet flew into the wall. He walked closer. I pointed the gun at him. "I won't do that if I were you," Kido said and charged at me knocking my gun out of my hands.

"You are a really naughty girl today, Aiko," Kido said and went up closer to me.

I felt a tear escape my eye, I pushed Kido aside and shouted, "STOP MANIPULATING MY FEELINGS!" Then a bunch of blue light showed up around me and my void appeared in front of me. Actually, I have never seen what my void looked like. It was a crystallized heart.

"What the- Don't touch it Aiko!"

I reached out to touch it, but when I did, it exploded and went back inside of me. Then I felt like my whole entire went darker and darker. The last thing I remember is a voice shouting my name repeated.

"Aiko! Wake up!" I opened my eyes. It was Kido. Wait no,it was a younger version of him, the him before he left. So...

Where am I?
