I'm usually not one to stand in the shadows.
At school, I'm the opposite of quiet and reserved. I talk all the time and I'm not afraid to speak my mind. Most teachers love me because I'm always participating, and I get perfect marks on all my tests. It's so crazy to me how a single person can make someone like that try and hide themselves as best they can.
I stood behind my father all the way up to the ministers box. Him and my mother led the way in the front and I just stayed back. No need to draw attention to myself when it's not needed.
"Hello there!" said the minister, popping out of nowhere as soon as we reached the top. "Mr. Malfoy! Mr. Rhowen! And family of course," he nodded his head to the rest of us as he shook the mens hands. I bowed my head respectfully with a smile as my mother did the same. "I was just telling Arthur about your wonderful donations to Mungo's hospital. We seriously appreciate them. What kind souls," said the minister. I heard a small scoff from behind Minister Fudge.
Draco hit my arm suddenly and whispered in my ear, "You hear Weasley back there?"
I looked past the Minister, past Arthur Weasley and all his family, past Harry Potter, and past Hermione Granger to the red head in the back of the group with his head down and a scold on his face.
"You just hear his little scoff? The freak is jealous of our father's kindness," he said, only loud enough for me to hear and I let out a huff of laughter. My father looked over at me and gave me a look. He always had a way to shut me down with just a facial expression. It amazed me and scared me at the same time.
I looked back from my father to Weasley in the back who was looking at me before I even looked over. We held a stare until I broke it by turning to the minister.
"And you, I don't think we've properly met. Minister Fudge," he held out his hand, "I've heard great things about you Miss Katerina," he said, a grin forming on his face. I let a smile through and I should his hand, although the only thing I was thinking about was what my father had been telling the Minister about me.
"Lovely to meet you, Mr. Fudge," I said.
"We can't wait for you to work here in the Ministry. Not too far away you know! Pretty soon you'll be replacing your father," said the Minister. That same scoff came from the back of the group and I moved my eyes to the right, looking at Ron Weasley as he gave me a glare. My smile never faded though, as I gave the Minister a laugh.
"Yes, of course. Big shoes to fill, but I've got it," I said. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Hermione Granger roll her eyes and turn and whisper something to Potter standing next to her. What could they possibly have been talking about? I was only being polite to the Minister, something they could never do.
"Ah, yes. And you, Mr Malfoy..."
The conversation faded and I soon found myself staring in the direction of Potter, Weasley, and Granger as they all whispered and scoffed. A glare came over my face as Potter whispered something about Draco to the other two and they all started laughing. His smile dropped, though, once his eyes met mine. We held each others gaze until Arthur Weasley shooed them all away to their seats and my father directed me to my seat.
