Chapter 47

[Recap: Vikram comes to Ballia. Later Vikram and Birju go to Cuttack. While Rani and Dadiamma watch the news they hear about an accident in Odisha. Rani suspects the car involved in the accident is of Veer].

Vikram took out his phone from his pocket.
He was so distressed with everything happening around him that it took him time to recognise his own phone's ringtone.

"Bhabisa..", he said as Rani's name appear on his phone's screen.
Who else could it be anyway.
He knew she would call him up sooner (or maybe immediately after watching the news) or later.

By that time the call went out.

Vikram hesitated to call her back.
What would he answer? Tell her that the car that met with an accident possibly belonged to Veer? Or---

Vikram pulled the nearby chair and sat down. Birju was already seated.
The commisioner will be here any moment and they'll be going to the accident spot.

Rani sat down on the floor.

She could hear Dadiamma banging on the closed door of her room asking her rather requesting her to come out but Rani was unbothered.

She looked at her phone's screen while trying to decide whether or not to call Vikram again.
What if he is busy finding Veer?
What if he is with Veer?

Fear, dread, anxiety, nervousness altogether were gripping her heart and mind.

She leaned against the wall and looked outside through the open window hoping to find a ray of sunshine amongst the dark clouds that covered the sky.

The assistant commisioner of police accompanied Vikram and Birju till the spot of the accident.

The forensic team had been called for further investigation.

"Mr. Vikram yehi wo jagah hai janha gaari ka accident hua thha. Gaari guard rails se jaake takra gyi. Forensic team abhi bhi taykikat kar rahi hai... accident ka exact cause jald pata chal jayega", said the acp.

Vikram: sir kya vo gaari mai abhi ekbar dekh sakta hu..

ACP: ofcourse Mr.Vikram..hum abhi wahi le jne wale thhe apko ...sirf gaari nahi baaki Jo bhi cheeze humme aas paas se mili hai wo sab aap dekhenge...

Vikram was observing the things kept on the table:
A broken phone, a ring, a suitcase, a car emblem.

Officer: Mr Vikram, kya aap in cheezo ko pehchante hai?

Vikram: ye emblem...humare Ghar ki saari gaariyo pe laga hai...iss suitcase mai jo kapde hai vo bro ke hai... phone bhi bro ka--

His voice cracked.

Officer: aur..umm...ye..ring? Kya aap iss ring ko pehchante hai?

Vikram picked the shiny golden thing in his hand.
How can't he recognise the ring which his bhabisa made his bro wear, on their engagement ?

ACP: Mr Vikram?

Vikram: Haan...Haan ye..ye bhi bro ki hi hai...

ACP: so Mr.Vikram it's confirmed ki gaari Me.Veer ki hi hai aur gaari wahi chala rahe hai.

Vikram: to phir bro hai knaha sir? Aap hi ne to knaha aas pass koi bhi insaan nahi mila aapko.. knaha Gaye bro?

ACP: dekhiye Mr.Vikram I know it's hard to accept but jis tarah gaari ka front part damage hua hai usse lagta to nahi ki chalane wala Bach sakta hai...

Vikram: in that case chalane wale ki body milni chahiye thi par aesa nahi hua matlab vo ab bhi Zinda hai...

ACP nodded.
