A grownup life
Previously: Peter had been captured by pirates while Tink was gone and Wendy partially accepted that she had to grow up.
(Wendy POV)
I was still awake when the sun rises, I had a restless night.
Today, it was my fourteen birthday and my aunt had already made the arrangements with all the boys of my street to come and meet me.
My mother agreed with my aunt, I needed to find a husband soon. With all this coming, I just had one thought, 'growing up sucks.' I wasn't ready to be an adult but deep down inside, I knew I had to. My adventures were now over, no more Peter Pan, no more magic or fairies, only the boring real world.
I looked through my window and stared at the sky; where the imaginary world of my lost friend was supposed to be.
Maybe it was all in my head; it would explain why he never came back for me or why I didn't have anything that belongs to this imaginary island.
I think I had a necklace with an acorn at the end of it once, Peter supposedly gave it to me but it just vanished somewhere and I never saw it again.
I probably just imagined it.
I glared at the sky for a few more minutes and then, for the first time since I supposedly say him goodbye, I closed the window. My childhood was now over, I needed to grow up.
I sat in front of my mirror and stared at myself.
'How did I didn't realize sooner? I don't have the face of a little girl anymore, I am now a woman.' I thought to myself.
I took my lipstick, my mascara and much other stuff that my aunt had given me and stared at it, a little hesitant.
I rip off the ribbon in my hair and threw it in one of the corner of my room. Then, I looked at myself and began my makeup, not the one a little girl would wear, one that a real lady would wear. At the end, it wasn't so bad sincerely, I kinda liked it. It makes me look older and prettier, just like I wanted.
"Wendy! Wak-" my mom said. "Oh! You're already awake, well your aunt is down stairs, she wants you to meet boys today."
I timidly smiled, just like a lady would do.
"Okay mother, tell her I'm on my way."
She nodded.
"Okay sweetie."
"No mother, not sweetie."
She seemed surprised.
"Why not?"
"I'm not a little girl anymore; you should call me darling or dear. You know, just like a grownup is called."
"Hum, as you wish Wendy. Your aunt is waiting."
"Okay I'm going."
I walked down the stairs, my heartbeat was really fast. Breathe Wendy, it's just boys, you meet them and you choose one to be your husband. Everything will be fine, just breathe.
"Wow Wendy! You look amazing!" Said my aunt, she seemed very excited. No, not excited, relieved. Apparently, she was glad that I finally accepted to grow up.
"Thank you aunt I'm glad to make you proud." I looked around us, nobody was there. "Where's everyone?"
"Oh, I have planned a ball tonight; it will allow you to meet everyone in a better mood than a brief meeting of a few minutes."
Excitement filled my body, a ball! Just for me! Growing up wasn't so bad after all.
"Oh my goodness! Aunt you did this for me! Thank you so much!"
