In the blink of an eye, 2 years pass. So quickly, it goes by.
Harry was wrong, nothing much changed.
Except you haven't spoken to Paige or Tony since they moved out. They seemingly cut off contact with everyone.
As the second year anniversary of their disappearance from you life dawns, you decide to pay them a visit. In al, fairness, you never went to see them.
You pull up outside their house. The garden is looking very neat. Must have been Tony's doing, Paige could never have achieved this.
You walk up to the door. You hear shouting. A lot of it.
It's not Paige's voice. It's Tony's. You'd never heard the man too angry before, and now, just hearing the muffled yelling, you're grateful for that.
You knock on the door. The screaming stops, and the door swings open. It's Tony.
"Y/N! We weren't expecting you. I'm so sorry, you've come in a bit of a bad time."
Paige appears at his side."Hi." She mumbles, not looking you. Her eyes are red and she sniffs. "We're really sorry, could you come back later?"
"Is everything alright?"
"Yes, it's all fine." She says. "Really."
You glance at her worriedly. "Alright, well... I'll see you later, yeah?"
"Alright. Goodbye, Y/N." Tony says, shutting the door in your face. Almost as soon as it closes, the shouting continues.
You drive home and hope it's just some quarrel, and that it's an overreaction, and that they'll kiss and make up.
You can't help a pit of worry in your stomach, however. Nobody blows up like that for no reason, right?
...
But people do. You've experienced it firsthand. You feel yourself become weak at the thought that your friend is somewhere dangerous. For a moment, you hope Paige has does something terrible. It's far better than the alternative.
Your phone buzzes, and you jump. You glance at the screen.
Hi. Can we meet up?
A message from Paige. You hope desperately it's so she'll explain some terrible mistake she made and that hunts are going to be okay.
Yeah, sure. Where?
You type the message back. The response is almost immediate.
I don't mind. Starbucks?
Yeah. Meet you in 10 minutes.
You head to the car. You take a few seconds to collect your thoughts.
Whatever she tells you next is going to change things. No matter what.
Paige is already sat in there. You can tell she's been crying.
You take a seat across from her. "Hey. What's the matter?"
She sniffs, wiping her face. "Me and Tony are getting a divorce."
"What?! Why?" You beg some god she'll tell you what's going on.
"I-it's not working out." She just says. You doubt you could coax any other answer out of her.
"Oh, Paige." You mumble. "How awful..."
"I-I still love him. I love him with every inch of my being. It's breaking my heart." Her voice breaks on that last word, and she looks down.
You pull her into a tight hug and let her cry onto your shoulder. "Hey. I heard him yelling at you. Surely this is for the best."
"It's my fault, I-I-"
"Whatever the reason, you have a place with me. You're the only proper friend I've ever really had, and... and nothing can change that."
She sobs harder into you. You rub her back gently.
"Hey. You wanna come home with me?"
She nods, lifting her head and going to wipe her eyes. You find her a tissue in your bag.
"Thanks." She mumbles.
"We'll get through it."
