The forest wasn't safe anymore.
It was, once when they were the only ones who could terrorise the outskirts of Seoul.
Predators.
That's what they were to every other species that hid themselves in the dark.
But they weren't them anymore.
Once humans began inhabiting most of the lands that were once theirs, a treaty was established to maintain peace. Something that was strong enough to stop them, the Wolves from acting out recklessly and humans from overstepping boundaries.
This settlement required a brief meeting every two months just to make sure that no one had violated the law and in fact something that prompted the two parties to work hand in hand.
It is the third of April today.
And taehyung is on his way back to his pack after the meeting he attended on behalf of his father.
Being next in line as the head alpha of the Kim pack isn't something taehyung was really fond off. He was the only son of alpha Kim who raised him with morals that trespassed the realms of principles ideally suited for a predator like him.
Taehyung was soft, harsh, fierce and innocent, a myriad of complexities that made him all the more deserving of the best choice for the next head alpha.
But more than anything taehyung was someone who cherished what he had. Be it his family, his friends or the pack who scrutinized and judged every breath he took, those careful eyes that pried, prodded more than he thought they could.
To the elders in his pack, he was a strong willed alpha with a stoic face, someone capable of tackling a bear to the ground in beats. To other alphas, he was just a spoiled brat who had everything served on a silver spoon. Handsome, were he to the Omega's and betas that oogled him.
But no one knew the real him.
The real him who was still a pup inside with a strong need to love and be loved in return.
Wolves in his pack are born with a mark on their bodies, something akin to a birthmark that disappears once they meet their mates.
The thing is .... Taehyung was born mark less and no amount of reassurances from his parents soothed the ache in his heart, the ache he felt for his mate.
Someone that didn't exist in the first place.
But he was a master at hiding his pain, hid them very well to the point that others mistook his grief as resentment.
Resentment towards a life that was robbed of him.
The sound of the bells chiming in the distance broke the spell he was under, his legs turning towards the path he always took whenever he was out on the scheduled meet-up.
But something about the Choi pack didn't feel right this time. The eerieness in the air itself was something that demanded his attention.
But taehyung walked forward to the busiest side of the pack, taking account of how the members were active at early dawn, running around doing house chores and setting up their shops and the usual chaos caused by pups being a total menace this early in the morning.
Watching these scenes unfold made the alpha hide a smile, too much of a sucker for the domestic bliss.
Taehyung is supposed to greet the pack alpha once he crossed the border, another strategy that is meant to maintain a peace between the two packs.
Afterall it's not just humans that they should be worried about.
Once he made his way inside after greeting the guard at stand, the alpha looked around the spacious room, the dim light from the lantern across the east side of the room casting a dark glow on the wall opposite to it.
But before he could take a good look around, the sound of something clinking lightly against a metal bar brought the alphas attention to the small cage placed at the further side of the room.
Not long after, the scent of honeysuckle tickled his nostrils, ears perking up with a quite whimper that would have been missed with the sounds of the burning wood in the fireplace.
No. This isn't possible.
Taehyung stepped cautiously to the side of the cage not covered properly with his heart in his throat, leaning down to peer inside, his wolf stirring in his chest when he saw a small male inside, legs bound with metal chains.
When those shiny eyes hidden beneath silver hair strands caught the sight of the alpha outside, eyes locking with taehyung's golden one, taehyung fell to his knees, hands clutching his chest in pain.
Taehyung couldn't breathe, his lungs burning with the smell of honeysuckle only, like the world is devoid of any scent other than this sweet smell.
The wolf inside the cage scrambled forward, extending his hand from inside, offering it to the alpha outside when he saw the other in pain on his knees. The omegas ears were downturned, eyes watery with his nose tips and lips a pretty pink.
The smell of honey suckle increased two folds then, the alpha looking down towards the extended hand that were small but flushed all pink, his own other hand lifting up to grab the soft palm.
The burning pain in his chest faded when their hands met for the first time, small fingers holding on tightly to his long ones and squeezing them lightly.
Looking back at the beautiful person in tattered clothes and sparkling eyes gazing at him softly, taehyung felt the persistent ache he had for years disappearing without a trace.
The Omega clutched his hands tightly, feline eyes filling up with a fresh batch of tears and whispered a broken 'help', that broke taehyung's heart for two reasons.
One, he could sense the amount of agony behind the plea. He can tell that the omega had went through a lot and taehyung's heart was hurting for the other. He was having an ardent need to protect him from every possible harm.
Two, taehyung doesn't need anyone to tell him that the pain he experienced was from his mark etching onto his chest and the omega he was facing right now didn't even have a clue what taehyung was to him.
Maybe no one's gonna read this but I'm sorry... the updates will be very slow.
