Chapter 5

That night is when the dreams started. I fell asleep on the love couch, enjoying some tv and trying to wind down from what has been my life the past couple of days. The second I closed my eyes it was like the dream swallowed me. I was in the forest, surrounded by a massive fire, my parents were sitting on the opposite side of me. They looked exhausted and hurt. Not physically but mentally.

"What is this!?" I looked around scared. "Mom? Dad? Are you okay?" I tried to run to them but I couldn't go anywhere. I was stuck.

"What is this," I panicked, "what's going on? Why can't I move?" I tried to pick my feet up and move even closer to my parents but I couldn't get there.

"What is going on!!!!!" I cried! Tears were streaming down my face. My parents wouldn't meet my eyes. "Mom!" I shouted. "Dad!" I tried to reach out for him! Just then. I heard it. Laughter that told of sadness within the person. It was a dark laughter. One that sent shivers down my spine. I looked around the campsite but I couldn't see where the laughter was coming from. I looked everywhere but the fire only showed me my papers hunched over form. Just then from behind them, piercing red tinged eyes appeared from behind Mom and Dad. She waved her hands and the vines that I didn't see that were grasping my parents lifted them so that their bodies didn't seem so lifeless.

"So, the dutiful daughter has finally come to pay her parents a visit." Helena chuckled, still having vines elevate my parents bodies. Their heads lulled against their chests.

" Please," I cried, "please give me my parents back. I want to help you. I can help you, I'm in Brion. I can make everything right. Just please, they didn't mean to hurt you." I was struggling to move more. Trying to get to my parents. Trying to not let my whole body give out, I could feel power churning in my stomach; power was trying to escape me, red started to fill my vision. Helena laughed some more.

" You know nothing of what happened." Helena lifted my parents higher. "You only know what was told to you. You have no idea how it felt trying to just be your own person but stuck in everyone else's shadows; living day by day struggling to be your own person. I couldn't take it anymore. I finally snapped. Now. Listen to me. You will meet with me in 1 week, when the moon is full. You will give me Brion. I will give you your parents. You three will rot in jail for eternity while I rule Brion. Do we have a deal?" Helena spoke with confidence, but I felt it her stance, how she grounded herself on the earth that she faltered. She didn't know that I knew that though, my powers must be growing.

"Can we just talk first? Can we meet and talk? Can we figure out how to do this effectively, please?" I was faking at this point, I knew she wasn't sure of herself. I knew she didn't know what to actually do.

She was amazed I was even questioning her. I could do this. I could get my parents back. I just needed to wake up and tell Leanna what I learned. I watched the red tinge of her eyes think about what was going on, about what I had just suggested. I knew she'd take the bait though.

"One week from today. We will meet in the throne room of Brion and negotiate." Helen agreed.

I could actually do this, I can get my parents back. My powers were already starting to grow quickly. "One week." I agreed.

I looked back hauntingly at my parents, their heads still lulled in their vine wrapped prison. "Are they okay?" I asked her, looking at her pleadingly.

"They are, but they don't deserve it. Everyday my vines grow tighter around them until eventually they die." She looked at my parents, I swear I saw a look of sadness when she looked at them. She didn't want to do this, I could tell she didn't want to do this anymore, she was just hurt. I grew to sympathize with her, "I'll fix this," I promised her, and in doing so promised my parents as well.

The fire started to disappear, I panicked, not understanding what was going on.

I woke up suddenly to knocking on my door.
