Chapter 6
The knocking got louder, as I sat up from my couch, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. I couldn't get over seeing mom and dad. They looked so ill, so broken, almost lifeless. The knocking grew louder, it almost sounded like more than one person banging on my door.
"Oh my god, I am coming!" I yelled, hurriedly turning off the tv and running over to the door. I ran across my room, threw my door open and immediately froze. There I was, standing in sleep in pjs, with my hair still all bedhead-esc and Ruadan standing in front of me. Eyes wide.
"Oh, uh, come in?" I gestured, obviously horrified.
He walked in, running his fingers through his hair, obviously taken aback by the fact he had just woken me up. "I'm sorry I woke you. I didn't even think you'd still be asleep," he mused.
"What time is it?" I looked around my room and didn't see a clock... How inconvenient.
"It's noon," he chuckled.
Crap, I thought, definitely even more embarrassed.
"I don't usually sleep in," I tried to make the room feel less awkward between the heat that was radiating off him and my utter embarrassment.
"Don't worry about it," he said, looking from my bed to the loveseat, "Diana needs to see you." He turned around, looking at me, first finally taking in my appearance and then fixing his expression so he looked more nonchalant.
"Need me for what?" I walked over to the loveseat and sat down, playing with the blanket I had slept with.
"Your Princess lessons," he shrugged, "You have 18 years worth of information you need to learn before you take the throne in a week."
I dropped the blanket on the floor and stood up in horror.
"A WEEK!?" The room shook a little with my yell, "I thought they would not only give me more time, but also why does Diana need to see me? I thought The Elders were going to begin my training."
"They were," Ruadan smirked, "but you slept so long, they had other things they needed to focus on so they passed you onto Diana.
Talk about embarrassing.
"Oh, okay, well I'll get dressed then." I looked at Ruadan, he looked back at me.
"I have to get dressed now." I walked over to the wardrobe.
"Oh, right right, I'll just stand outside then." Ruadan made to walk out of the room, but before he could, I gasped as soon as I pulled out on of the dresses.
"What's wrong," he turned around.
"How am I supposed to put this on, myself?" I said with a shock, "It looks like it needs to be tied in the back. Who wears these anymore?" I shook my head in utter disbelief.
"Just put on what you can, I won't look, and when you're ready I'll help you with the rest." Ruadan turned his back to me, sitting as far as he could on the love couch away from me.
I started to undress, completely aware that there was a boy in the room... one made me feel like I was jelly being close to him. I put on a simple blue dress, the bodice obviously needed to be tightened, but the rest of the dress draped out in a simple design. There were golden flowers laced around the bottom that made the dress appear to be moving even when I was standing still. I started to try to tighten as much of the bodice by myself, until I felt calloused hands brush mine. I gasped a little at the heat the flew between my hands and Ruadan as we touched.
