"Tiffany!" A voice yelled, waking her up.

Tiffany rolled onto her back to see Newt. "What?" she squinted because of the sun.

"You have to go with me to Gally. You'll be trying out jobs." he looked down to the girl, as she lay in her hammock, he looked even taller than before.

"What jobs are there?" she asked, sitting up now.

Newt sighed. "Builders, where you're going today, Track-Hoes, where food is grown, Slicers, where uh-you'll find out, Med-jacks, who help the ill, Sloppers, who don't have a job. Hopefully, you will." he looked her up and down. "And you might want to change into something else. It gets hot. Clothes were sent up with you."

Tiffany walked out of the room in Jean shorts, a light blue button up with the sleeves pulled up to her elbows, combat boots, and her hair in a messy bun.

Newt nodded. "Alright, Gally is waiting for us."

The two walked out of the homestead and Tiffany looked around. "Minho brought up about being a runner. What do they do?"

"They run the maze. Try to figure out a way to get out of this place."

She looked up at Newt. "Am I going to get to try that job?"

Newt laughed. "No. You have to be skilled, trusted, and here for a while."

"Oh." she looked down as they walked. Tiffany kicked a few rocks, then stopped when she saw a tall kid, with crazy eyebrows, standing with his hands on his hips.

"That the greenie?" a smirk was appearing on his face.

Newt rolled his eyes. "Yes, Gally. And her name is Tiffany." he turned to her. "You'll be working with Gally today, try your best. I'll be back before sundown." he walked off.

Tiffany looked at Gally and shrugged. "What do I do?"

"Well, we're working on making more space for Gladers to sleep." Gally's eyes were squinted. And he tossed her a hammer start helping.

She raised an eyebrow and looked from the hammer, to Gally. "That's it?"

"Yep." he said, already working on something.

Tiffany was nailing hammock to logs that she pushed into the ground. Her hands were sweaty and so was her forehead. Her button up was now wrapped around her waist, so she was now wearing a sports bra. She really didn't care, even the other Builders didn't care.

"I think you'd be great for this job. I mean you've got muscles in your arms, you're pretty strong. For a girl." Gally said as he walked toward her.

Tiffany laughed, showing she was out of breath. "Yeah, but it is tiring."

"You'll get used to it." he smiled. "I mean you've built more than the others today."

She hit a nail into the tree with her hammer. "Yeah, well Newt said to try my best." Tiffany sat against the tree. "It's almost sundown. Newt should be here."

Gally nodded. "Yeah. He's walking over now. So get yourself up, shank."

She did so and Newt came over to Gally. "How'd she do?"

"Really well. She built more than the others." he crossed his arms.

Newt looked at Tiffany, surprised, then back to Gally. "Oh? Well does she like it?"

Gally shrugged. "Not really."

"It's too hard." Tiffany got up, pulling her button up back on. "I feel like my arms are going to fall off."

Newt stared at her, again, coldly. "The job's yours. You did better than the others. You don't have to go through the other ones."

"What?" Tiffany walked toward the two. "That's it? I don't get to decide if I want to try others?"

Newt sighed. "I'm not talking about this. You've got the job, that's it. Unless you want to be a slopper, like Chuck."

"That is so not fair! I don't want to be a builder! Can I just-"

Newt cut her off. "I said no! You listen to me, when Alby isn't around. So you better. If you don't want the job, you're a slopper."

Tiffany walked away. "Whatever."

She sat in front of the maze doors, waiting for Minho. Go. Something in her head said. Looking out there, she ignored it. Even if she wanted to, she knew she couldn't. A figure started sprinting from around the corner and she knew it was Minho. As he got closer, Tiffany realized he didn't see her. So she just sat and waited. The doors started closing so he sped up. Next thing she knew, Minho was leaping before the maze doors closed, and fell onto Tiffany. She fell back with a thud.

Minho looked at her. "Sorry." he murmured and got up. He reached a hand out to her. "Need help?"

She grabbed his hand hesitantly, and he pulled her up. "Thanks." she wiped dirt of her shirt.

"What job did you get, greenie?" he smiled, stretching his arms.

"Builder."

Minho groaned. "Seriously?"

"Seriously." she laughed a little.

"Worst job for you." Minho scratched the back of his neck.

"Why?" she asked, moving closer to him.

"You don't look or act like someone who's a builder."

"Then what do I look like?"

Minho grinned. "I'll wake you up in the morning and show you."
