chapter twenty one ...

"If you need anything just let me know." I said once I got Remi settled in my guest bedroom. She nodded her head with a slight smile. "Thank you Lo." she said for the tenth time.
"Always." I said then closed the door and walked inside the kitchen getting my leftover food out the refrigerator.
As I was warming it up my phone started ringing. I already knew who was calling so I picked it up and put the phone on speaker. "I'm coming." I said.
"Wasn't even what I was finna say." Duke said. "Then what were you going to say?" I asked him then grabbed a plastic fork from the pantry.
"Bring me a water and bring Balenci." he said and I furrowed my eyebrows. "Why am I bringing Lenci?" I asked him then took my food out the microwave and tested its temperature.
"Finna get ha groomed with Bando and Breeze." he said talking about his dogs. "Oh okay." I said then looked at Balenci sleep on her couch.
"Lenci Lenc, come on fat mama." I said waking her up and she waddled over to me. "Remi i'll be back later! I'll leave the spare key on the table for you!" I shouted then grabbed my keychain and my food.
"Hea we come." I said then hung up. I put the water in my purse then held the door open for Balenci to walk out first.
I locked the door, got on the elevator, then walked out the lobby and opened the back door for Balenci.
I sensed she was scared of the other two Frenchies so I looked in the front seat at Duke. "Is they gon bite my baby?" I asked him and he shook his head no.
"Nah they ain even gon touch ha." he said and I made the mm face. "Go head Lenc, it's cool." I said then helped her inside.
Once I got in the car I handed Duke his Core water, gave him a kiss on the cheek, then opened my to go box and started bussing down my oxtails and seafood rice.
"Whea' you get that from?" he asked me looking down at my plate. "Oh this?" I looked down at the plate. "My mommy." I smiled and he shook his head.
"Mommy know her daughter had to get bailed outta jail?" he asked me and I shook my head no. "My mama wouldn't like the sound of that." I shrugged.
"And what you mean bailed out, they never posted my bond." I furrowed my eyebrows.
"You and yo homegirl bond together was two thousand." he said and I gasped. "Duke why you ain't been said something, we gon pay you back, trust." I said then got on my phone going to Maci and I's messages.
