Spring break passed, and another week passed. The whole city and its neighbors were clambering over the announcement Fern Sterling made. Time and time again, someone came forward to present a baker, and each one was turned away for not being the right one. Forest was exhausted from the search, wishing he could take a break from the whole matter. He really wanted to see Indigo again, to talk with her at least.
"Forest, that pretty thing that danced with you- who was she?"
"Huh?"
Forest was broken out of his daze by Rusty.
"The girl in the blue and purple dress from the dance floor! Do you know her?"
"Uh, kinda."
"Can you give me her number?"
"This isn't high school, Rusty. I think you can find her on your own."
"C'mon, man! Just a hint. A name, something!" Rusty pleaded.
The other guys in the group were also interested in the one girl Forest was willing to dance with. The few girls who listened scowled at the idea of a lady stealing their prince charming. Forest didn't want to give Indigo's identity away, but he knew they'd keep pestering until he gave them something.
"You've already met her before the party. And that's your only hint."
The guys groaned, annoyed by the vague, teasing hint. Forest turned his gaze to the kitchen window, catching glimpses of Indigo. He kept eating his lunch, thinking about how to get a moment alone with Indigo. It was high time he asked her out.
"I'll be right back."
"Huh?"
Rusty watched as Forest walked over to the kitchen. Meanwhile, the kitchen was a mess of chefs and bakers running about for classes and last-minute orders. This included Indigo and her fellow bakers.
"Indi, where's the frosting for the Marigold baby shower?"
"It's not ready yet, Honey! I still need to add the lemon extract and yellow food coloring!"
Rosemary noticed Forest was standing by the kitchen window, and smirked. She motioned for him to come in and follow her through the hot mess. Rosemary tapped Indigo's shoulder, startling her.
"Wha- oh."
"Follow me," her professor requested.
Indigo went with Forest and Rosemary to the back office. Rosemary waited for the pair to enter the room before closing it slightly and stepping away. Indigo stood in front of Forest, hands on her hips.
"I, uh... I wanted to say thank you for helping me the other day. Getting away from the fans and reporters," Forest started.
"Yeah, I... um, thank you for the displays. They looked good."
"Thanks. I'm glad I could help."
"No problem."
There was an air of silence between the two. They looked down at the floor or at the wall, but not at each other except for the occasional glance. Forest cleared his throat.
"Um... to really show my thanks, I was... I was wondering if maybe... you and I... we could, uh... get a cup of coffee or something. This weekend. If you're cool with it. If not, I get it-"
"Sure."
"Huh?"
"Sure. I have some time this Saturday. We could go hang out at a cafe I know," Indigo answered.
