When you opened your eyes, all you saw was darkness. You could feel the floor, it was hard, and cold. You stood shakily, feeling the chains entrapping your arms, legs, and neck strain as you rose. From a distance, a faint light shone. You stumbled towards the red glow, placing your hand on the blast proof glass. In the dim lighting, your face reflected on the glass. It was your current one, despite the setting being somewhere you resided in your childhood. Just as your hand brushed the glass, the room changed, swirling into a long hallway. A boy, around the age of eleven or twelve raced ahead of you. A gunshot fractured the silence, grazing your cheek, and hitting the boy in the back. The scrape on your cheek healed, but his wounds didn't. You felt the curse stir, reacting with the emotions that were summoned with your friends injury. You clutched him close, feeling the blood from the wound soak into your shirt. The curse exploded from your palm, rocketing towards the woman who had shot your friend. You ran off, carrying him in your arms. The wind and snow whistled past you, stinging your face as you fled back home. I dug a grave for your friend amongst the blossoms. Your clothes were covered in his blood, the metallic smell overpowering your other senses. A nauseous feeling crept up your throat as you gazed upon his frozen face. The cold body in your arms stirred as you lowered it into the grave. Its steely grip on your arm grew stronger as you tried to pry your wrist away.
"Your fault, your fault," it whispered. The whispers wormed their way into your mind, increasing as more figures from your past joined the chorus of corpses.
Your mother.
Your sister.
Your friends.
Your brother, who murmured along with the dancing ghosts even though he was still flesh and blood.
"Murderer,"
"Monster,"
"It's all your fault,"You turned around, looking for an escape. A light glowed in the horizon. You broke through the crowd of spirits, rushing towards the light. You recognized the figure in the light. Coppery hair, blue eyes glinting in the horizon, the ghost of a smirk resting on his face. Childe?
Nevertheless, you reached towards him, desperate for him to help you, to free you. But he turned away, his face contorting in disgust when he saw your bloodstained clothes. He left, taking the light with him. The spirits caught up to you, wrapping you in their arms. Their embrace stung, like thousands of needles being plunged into your skin. They dragged you back to the open grave, forcing you into it. You tried to use your curse to fight against them, but it turned against you, pinning you down as the ghosts sealed your grave.
Your eyes shot open, your heart racing at marathon pace. You lurched forward, eyes wild with panic, hair sticking to your forehead with sweat, limbs tangled in the sheets. Your breathing slowed once you realized it was just a dream. The light filtered through the curtains, bathing the room in warm grey tones. Pulling the sheets off, you wiped your mouth with the back of your hand. The food from last night sat on the table. You wonder if it's still good? You stumbled through your morning routine, pulling on your work clothes and leaving the house.
"So it seems you finally found a boyfriend, eh?" A voice announced behind you.
"Huh? Who?" You spun around, facing the old woman who lived two doors down from you.
"That young man that walked you home last night, right?" She asked, further questioning you.
"Him? Oh no, he's not my boyfriend, I just met him yesterday!" You defended yourself, feeling a blush rise to your face.
"Alright deary, whatever you say," she said wryly, smirking and hobbling back to her apartment. You could've sworn you heard her say 'I know young love when I see it,' under her breath. You dashed down the stairs, heading towards the adventurers guild. When you got to the guild, a short blonde girl and an elf were talking to Lan and Katherine. Lumine and Paimon! You bolted up the steps, hoping to catch them before they left.
