THE BEGINNING OF THE END
The chilly night was filled with a promise of doom. One could tell by the deafening silence that engulfed the kingdom, even as the trees danced in the wind.
The once boisterous streets were now deserted, as the darkness had lured everyone to retire. Everyone except the ones with an unquenchable thirst for blood and a hunger for power.
They had a mission and it was almost done.
A man stood unflinching,cloaked from head to toe, in a garment as dark as the shadows. The air around him, dark and powerful enough to bring even the strongest to their knees.
An infant was given to him,it's wide eyes looked up innocently at the man and probably sensing the dark aura from the man,started to fidget.The worn out table creaking, was the only sound in the room as he placed the baby on it. And then,he took out a dagger.
"Reborn.Reborn.Reborn..." The people in the room chanted repeatedly as each made a cut on their palm with the dagger,letting their blood flow into the Lycurgus cup which sat on the table, just beside the unaware infant.
"With this, I call into existence a new age ,a life for a life , blood for blood , immortality for those who now ask of it " The man bellowed as he raised the cup high above his head.
A violent wind rattled the windows as though it knew of the evil that was to be done.
The air in the room had become more charged and the infant began fidgeting, as if it sensed the danger coming. The man placed the cup on the table and produced a syringe filled with a mysterious green liquid.
The shrill cry of the infant went throughout the room as he injected the contents of the syringe into it.
Meanwhile, the palace was in turmoil as the king ,queen and guards frantically searched for their newborn son. The King and his guards finally left the palace in search of his heir.
"The time has come..."The man said as he placed the child into the hands of a slave woman."Go now, you hold the key to the kingdom in your hands. May The goddess be with you.."
She, in turn knelt down as a sign of promise and in seconds disappeared into thin air.
As if on cue, guards charged into the room ready to attack, waiting for a signal from their king while the tribe members took their stance, ready to defend their leader.
"For a new age!!.." The tribe members shouted as they attacked but were easily defeated moments later. Soon they were all dead, their blood coating the floor of the room coincidentally from making a straight line
The battle line has indeed been drawn
"Where is my son, your future King, Zeus?" The king spat, his voice laced with venom and barely controlled rage. Five years they had tried to get an heir and now he had been snatched right under their noses.
The man now known as Zeus smiled as he slowly removed the mask covering his face.
"A new age has been born my King and you are going to sit and watch it all play out in front of you and do you know what the best part is Your highness?.."
Zeus smiled sinisterly while looking straight at the King "...you won't be able to do anything about it"
Then, laughing hysterically like a man who had lost his mind and maybe he had,he picked the cup,made a mock bow to the king before gulping down it's content.
The furious king rushed at him, ready to rip out his heart but he was too late as Zeus turned to sand just before the King could reach him and was swept away by the wind,leaving only the sound of his mocking laughter.
The eerie sound lingered like a disease, while everyone stood in shock,trying to process all that had just transpired. The king let out a loud cry as he fell to his knees, trembling.
Whatever Zeus had planned, whatever he had taken his son for, surely it was not for good. The King thought to himself as he stood.
The end,surely,was near.
