"It's dry, that's all I'm saying" Peterson said as he stood next to me, I rolled my eyes as we continued to make our way through the school grounds
The school wasn't as packed as it tends to be, usually you'd have kids swarming the place but seeing as it's almost 8pm. We aren't surprised as the silence
"You're just saying that because your choice wasn't chosen" Martins said making me chuckle in turn
"Way to make me sound like a 5 year old" Peterson said
The boys and I had just finished practice and to say it was an intense one would be an understatement
I had warned the boys that this year wasn't going to be easy. I wanted everything from them, if we didn't win.. There would be hell to pay to say the least
The plays we had worked on were bone crushing and one wrong move could have us ending in hospital but it was a necessary outcome
"I need your help" A voice said making me turn around to see a small brunette walking over to us frantically
The boy chuckled lightly
"The library is over there sweetheart" Peterson said
One of the biggest downside to the boys on the team and even myself including most of the time. The popularity and perks that comes with the position easily gets to all of our heads
"Please for the love of god go along with this" She said peaking my curiosity again as I turned completely to face her
"What's that?" I asked watching as she glanced over her shoulder
All three of us copied her actions to see a blonde heading in our direction
"What does Morris want you?" Martins asked making the small brunette shake her head watching as the guy got closer and closer
There was a slight look of terror on her face, one that didn't sit nicely in the pit of my stomach
Zoey?" The voice called making the brunette's eyes widen. Guess we have a name for her now..
Before any of us had the option to make another comment, Zoey got onto the tips of her toes. She looked at me with the same look before her hands reached forwards dragging mine in closer pressing our lips together
"Well fuck" Martins laughed as my hands reached the bottom of her back stabilising both us
"And we have company" Peterson causing Joey and I to pull apart. She looked up at me, her large blue eyes searching mine making me question if she felt the same thing I had just moments ago
"Zoey? It is you" Morris said making me raise a brow, Zoey timidly turned around to face him only to offer one of the fakest smiles I'd seen in years
"Hey Max" She said lowly
"What are you doing here?" He asked seemingly avoiding the fact that we were here or avoiding what he had just seen
"I transferred a week ago. I needed to get out of that town" She said making me look down at her curiously
We'd only just met but it's safe to say that she had made quite the entrance
"Boys, you don't mind if I steal Zoey away for a bit. I think we have some catching up to do" Morris said with a dirty smirk on his face
I didn't like this guy much, I never really have but from the look on Zoey's face, I was only going to hate him more with whatever this development is
"I'm afraid I would mind if my girlfriend went off with you" I said placing an arm around her, Morris' eyes darted between Zoey and I before narrowing in on me
"You two are?" He asked making both of us look down at Zoey who shyly bit her lip before nodding
"Yeah" She whispered softly before turning back to Morris
"Since when, I spoke to your mum the other day and she said that you-" Morris started before I shook my head
"We both decided on holding off going public, with football season just hitting us now. I didn't want Zoey to be in the firing line of some of the girls that comes out" I explained making Zoey's eyes widen realising who's lap she had just fallen into
The longer this exchange went on, the more I could see the boys out of the corner of my eyes trying to stifle a laugh
This wasn't how I had anticipated the evening going, but I'm also not about to complain about it
"Did you wanna meet for dinner sometime this week Zoey?" Morris asked making me roll my eyes
"Yeah we can arrange something. Would be great to hear about the town Zoey grew up in" I said sarcastically
Morris' eyes travelled to me again rolling his eyes making it known that he knew he wasn't winning this round. Hell he won't win this war at all
"Whatever, see you are Zo" He mumbled scratching the back of his neck as he slowly disappeared down the pathing he has just walked
The moment he was out of view, there was a happier spring to Zoey's step as she tried to almost bounce away from us
"And where do you think you are going?" I asked making her freeze in her steps turning slightly to look at me
"I personally am heading back to my dorm room so if you don't mind" She said offering a playful smile almost running off into the building in front of us
"What the hell just happened?" Peterson asked as I sighed.
"I think we would all like to know that" Martins answered
I watched as she slowly made her way inside leaving the three of us stood there contemplating what the hell just happened
Something tells me that this won't be out last exchange with her and honestly, I'm not made about it
