February 26 1997

Hermione was rushing down the hall to get to the Room of Requirement when Dumbledore cornered her. "Professor Dumbledore?" She asked.

"Hermione." He said in his best grandfatherly voice, hoping the young girl would follow him back to his office to discuss.. matters.

"What do you want Headmaster Dumbledore?" She asked.

"Oh I was just wondering if you would come up to my office for a meeting?" He asked.

Hermione bit her lips. "I'm sorry Professor, but I really need to get to my Defense Class, it starts in a few minutes." She explained.

"It won't be long." Dumbledore insisted, pulling out his wand slowly.

Hermione caught the movement and stepped back. "I'm sorry, I must be going Professor Dumbledore,"

He went to lift his wand when a voice said.

"You shouldn't be raising your wand at a student Albus." Hermione looked behind Dumbledore in relief, Snape had just saved her.

"I was just talking to my student."

"Do you talk to all your students?" Snape said. "In the middle of the hall before there next class. Which, Miss Granger, you'll be late if you don't get a move on."

Hermione bowed her head. "Thank you Professor Snape." She said and turned on her heal, leaving the corridor and heading down to the Defense Wing.

Snape turned to Dumbledore. "Why were you raising your wand! She didn't even have her out." Snape said.

"Its for the Greater Good." Dumbledore said simply, missing the spike of anger that ran through Snape's dark eyes.

"She had a class to get it. She's a student that really doesn't want to fail, yet you're trying to keep her from class."

"I wasn't trying to keep her from class - " Snape knew it was a lie, not that Dumbledore knew. The man hated how smart Hermione was and wanted the girl to himself, which honestly disgusted him.

"Yes, you were. I'm sure Lupin wouldn't allow her to get in trouble though." Snape drawled. "Big bad werewolf loves you."

Dumbledore huff in pride as Snape tried not to sneer. "Everything I do is for the Greater Good, we need to defeat the Dark Lord! We need to find our savior, Trixibell."

"You kicked her out of the school." Snape said sternly.

"She was hurting people Severus." Dumbledore said reasonably.

"But she wasn't. She was too much of an idiot then. Now, I doubt it."

"Shes not an idiot. She knows about the Hogwarts money."

Snape rose an eyebrow, Dumbledore usually never gave away that kind of information.

Dumbledore sighed deeply in disappointment. "She's smarter then we believed. She must have more of Lily's mind then James'."

Snape would have sighed if he wasn't so well trained in hiding his real emotion. "Albus, she caught that movement. You better hope she doesn't try something. She might even contact the Ministry. I'm sure they would love to have more beef on you." He was going to make sure Amelia Bones got that memory when he would give Hermione 'detention', that wouldn't go on her record cause she might just kill him for it.
