Sarah Heathcliff, A woman chained to the grief she has bound herself with, Grief for her brother, What happened to him was preventable, But nothing came of it, Every misstep added up in her eyes, The misstep that the Mandela county police branch took, Her misplaced anger for a man crippled by his own alternate encounter.

The woman had rage directed towards someone in the same boat as the person she sought vengeance for, It sickened her, The fear in his eyes as she held him against the back of the police station, Having lured him there, Thatcher's colleagues wouldn't come to his rescue, They didn't, Thatcher didn't hold any resentment towards Sarah, He understood, He wanted to help, To make up for his lack of action in the past, It seemed like everyone acted to repent for their sins.

That's what the church would have said to do, To follow the orders of a man they'd never meet in life... As if they weren't feeding the ego of a tyrannical demon the whole time.

Sarah could have killed that man, But she didn't, Something stopped her, Not in the way of swooping in between her and the officer, Nor did a brave voice yell out, But some animal, Happened to be there, It caught her off guard.

An animal in the form of a green snake, Slithering out of the bushes at the dead of night when nobody was around, It shouldn't have been there, And yet, It was, Her startle gave a chance for Thatcher to explain his case, For them to relate on their pasts, The serpent wiggled away as quickly as it had approached, Not to be seen again, Or well.. She thought.

Sarah was staying with a friend, Evelin Miller, She was a sweet girl, Quiet and cold on the outside but understanding, Patient and kind to a fault, Maybe,,, A little too kind at times.

Judging by the fact that they were eating breakfast with a 4 foot long snake, The blonde couldn't be a beggar, Evelin only asked that she do basic chores as a condition to stay there, But the snake was NOT on this airbnb listing!!

"Where'd you find that thing and what is it??" Sarah asked, Poking her spoon in the direction of the reptile before using it to take a bite of her cereal, Not taking her eyes off the scaled noodle.

The dark haired girl looked un-phased. "Well, I found him on my way home from work, It's getting colder, I didn't want to leave him out there, I think he's some sort of rough green snake."

Sarah glared in disgust as the pest sat on it's coiled body in it's own chair like a human, It looked like it thought it was better than them, All smug like. "Does it have a name?"

Evelin shook her head, Speaking quietly. "Oh no, Not yet, He seems to dislike any name I give him, We're going to go through another few lists tomorrow."

The blonde scoffed. "You talk about it like it's sentient!"

Her roommate gasped, Evelin was really hard to read sometimes, So Sarah didn't know if she was joking or not when she got up and pretended to cover the serpent's non-existent ears. "He is though!!! He's very smart!!"

The two had a sort of back in fourth, Thankfully it turned out to be just fun in games in that case, The older of the two eventually found her leave, Sarah never really liked being in the same place too long, Something about being restless at her core.

She lost track of time, The woman had a lot on her mind, In addition to survival and vengeance, The two boys she looked after ever since she joined them, Adam and Jonah, Got themselves into some deep shit.

Of course the two would adopted an angel, Lucid looked innocent enough, Unnaturally youthful for a creature that's old enough to look like an old hag had it be nerfed, Maybe it was her concern that he'd drag her friends into peril, More than the boys do themselves, Or maybe it was the fact that she couldn't look at the creature without the unnerving deja vu of seeing that face somewhere before.

Regardless, Sarah planned to pay attention to her texts and calls from Adam and Jonah for now on, Just in case, She shouldn't have to, Her brother shouldn't have died because he wanted to help an old classmate.

Her blood boiled every time she saw those fliers of Cesar Torres, For a town that loved to catalogue it's mandela sightings, They really did do a piss poor job of doing anything with any sort of urgency.

Sarah knew now that it wasn't the officer's or first responder's faults, It's the higher ups that planned to place blame on their lower tier of poor Joes that were either lured in by power or the deceptive idea that you'd be helping your fellow man.

The woman finally sat up from her place on the couch, Having wandered there after awhile, Sarah used to love winter and fall, But all she was thankful of it for was the fact that the cover of night came sooner, And she could head out, So the woman did, But not before shooting a glare at the serpent, With gesture to inform that she'd be watching him.

Maybe Sarah Healthcliff finally caught MAD... Maybe it ran in her family.

None the less, She'll be caving in the head of whatever monster plans to rip another family apart.
