"Are you stupid?" the voice aggressively asked.

"Uh- maybeee..?"

The figure seemed to deadpan at the response. I can't really tell tho.. The shadow man sighed before asking:
"Who are you?"

"Oh- im uh- my name is [name]..?"

"Is that an answer or a question?"

"Wouldn't you like to know?" A wave of confidence briefly washed over [name] before quickly fizzing out, leaving them in an awkward position.

They tried to read the mans (they should really ask for his name) facial features, but to no avail.

Goddamn you, you stupid and random ass wave of cockiness.

"So, uh, what's your name?" [name] asked, trying to get rid of any awkwardness their comment left.

"Its Boss." He responds

"I'm sorry?" [name] questioned, trying to hold in a snort.

Seriously? Boss? The next thing I know he's the boss of a company or something.

"Boss," he repeated annoyed, "my name is Boss."

To be honest, [name] knew teasing the guy wasn't a good idea. He looked intimidating as fuck, even if [name] was slightly taller than him. And man were these two shit at making good first impressions.

"How did you get here?" Boss asked, breaking the silence.

"Uh, well I kinda got turned into a ghost like 15 minutes ago and I was wandering around the city before I found this place."

"Oh." The man said, looking like he deciphered the meaning of life itself (pun very much intended).

"Well that would make much more sense. Before you ask why: it's because any other ghost knows to steer clear of this place."

"Oh. Alrighty then!"

As weird as everything sounded, [name] experienced first hand how quickly Boss gets annoyed so they refrained from asking any questions just yet.

"Anyways, thank you for saving.. me." [name] said.

Goddammit i wanted to say "my ass" but man looks like a dad, so let's not swear around him... just yet.

"You're most welcome. But there is something I need to adress. As you already know: I saved you, and that means you owe me debt." He paused, looking at me for a brief second.

"Sounds fair enough to me, how do i repay it?" [name] asked. Bosses eyes showed quiet clear satisfaction at the question.

Yup, he totally wanted me to say that. No doubt.
"Well, I run a little... business, you could call it.."

Fuckin' called it dude.

".. and to pay the debt back, you'll have to work there for a while." He said, his voice monotone.

"And if I don't?"

This question seems to take him by surprise, but he quickly recovers and says:
"You would have so many misdeeds stacked up, you'll turn into those things." He pointed at the former monster, now pile of goo on the floor.

"Hmm... then whats this job about?"

"Mostly patrolling the city and making sure the monsters dont attack anyone."

"Sounds good to me, I'm in!" [name] said in an almost unusual cheery voice.

"You don't have a say in this either way." the ghost joked, in the same monotone-laced voice.

[Name] snorted at this, taking the older ghost by surprise, once again,: did they actally get the joke without misunderstanding it as a (rude) remark?

"Alright, big guy, lead the way." [name] spoke in relaxed tone.

"Don't ever call me that again." The man responded, with venom lacing his tone.

"Y-yessir!" They brighter ghost quickly added.

The two begin walking towards the shutter (that [name] only now noticed it was there) as [name] begins to take in all that's happening, making them recap everything in their head:

Alllllrighty so, good deeds and misdeeds are a thing, I think good deeds make ghost brighter and misdeeds make them darker and oh god if anyone could read my mind with no context i would sound so racisttt. Also ghost are a thing. Now I'll be working with them?? How the fuck do you work?? What am i even thinking, theyll probably be friendly and work will be much easier than my other job. Wait i work 2 jobs now. Oh damn I'll be tired. Well..

The ghosts approached what seemed to look like a station office.

I guess first impressions matter, don't fuck this up.

As they entered, [name] could only helplessly play with their hands out of anxiousness while also sweating bullets.

What am I overreacting?? It's just another workplace, its no big deal!

They gently opened the door...

The other ghosts in he office immediately turned to look at whoever just entered, only to be greeted by a new face.

"New friend!!" Hayden jump excitedly, already circling the newest member. "New friend! Who are you? What's your name? Are you new?" He continued

Joan, who was at the other side of the room, didn't react much: she just glanced over.

"Ooo~ is that a new hire Bossman?"

"Yes, River,  it is."

Feeling quite overwhelmed by everyone's reaction (Mostly the kids), [name] just froze, like a deer in headlights.

Don't fuck this up, don't fuck this up, don't fuck this up, don't you fuck this up or I'll fucking kill you-

"Say," a sweet, almost raspy voice fishes [name] out of a pool of their own thoughts.
"Who might you be?"

"Uh- [name]. My name is [name]."

"And why are you here? I mean why has Boss dragged you here?"

"He saved my ass from some monsters."

The office went quiet as [name] realized they swore in front of a dad, a granny and a 6 year old. But before anyone said anything Boss got River to show them around. ( to avoid any arguing) (even tho I live here??)
