As the sun rays crept into the dark room, waking up the mortal from their slumber. As they groggly looked around the room, they felt a cold weight in their arms.
What's that??
They thought, more confused as ever. [Name] didn't remember anything from last nigh-
Oh.
Oh.
Okay, well, now they remember. River and Bosses fight.
Mmmm yeah- well that was awkward.
As they thought more of it they remembered the really corny paragraph they said to River. [Name] could only handle so much cheesyness, almost like they were lactose intolerant.
Oh fuck no- PLEASE tell me that I didn't say that.
The more [name] thought of it, the more they cringed.
It was like a love confession between two 13 year olds. WHY. WHY ME LORD. OH MY LORD WHYYY.
Suddenly, [name] felt a cold hit, almost like a flick, to their cheek. Confused, they turned around at the direction of it, but didn't find anything standing there.
Oh yeah, I woke up in my alive-and-well body. Well atleast I wont see Rivers smirk and won't hear her teasing.
"Welp! Gotta get going to this super important thing i have!" [name] said out loud, hoping to get out of an awkward situation, and an even awkwarder conversation with River.
They quickly and not-so-gracefully changed and metamorphically flew out of their apartment.
Once [name] reached the outside, they looked around for something to do. Looking left and right, trying to find any shops that might have any interesting stuff to examine, any familiar faces they could hang out with, but they were met with nothing. Absolutely nothing to do.
God hates me.
...now what? Ughhhhhhhhhh.
And with a mental groan they began walking towards that cafe. Their head hund down from shame. The last couple of minutes were embarrassing in bets case scenario, cringe in worst case scenario. Their posture slumped with a single sigh that left their mouth, letting all the muscles relax for a change.
What am I going to even tell River? That I just got coffee? That sure ain't super important.. or is it?
Okay, now [name] was very annoyed at themself. Telling River it was about a made up thing? What kind of friend are they? Why did they lie to their best friend? Are they a bad friend? The-
"May I take your order?" A bored males voice spoke from behind the counter.
"Oh-Uh yes! Can I get the usual?"
"Of course." The man sighed. "An espresso coming right up!"
The man, who [name] knew was named Kai, began preparing the coffee.
"So," he began. "How have you been?"
"I've been.. alright to say the least. Got a second job. I work the night shift there and my sleep schedule is literally 3 hours or so of sleep."
"Oh god, 3 hours? I get atleast 5! What are you even doing there that's eating your sleep??"
"I.."
Think stupid, think!
"..usually just do some shitty paperwork."
"Eugh, paperwork" Kai faked a gag.
"I couldn't agree more." [name] laughed at his antics.
"Like seriously, who does paperwork in the middle of the night? I don't know what the hell of a company that is but holy hell [name], you got scammed."
"Oh, you bet i know it. It does pay the bills though. So it's atleast good for something." [name] shrugged, sounding a lot like a "fake it till you make it" type of person. I mean, they kinda were already-
"Damn dude, you set that bar in earth's core." Kai remaked, giving [name] a playful look of disappointment.
"What can I say, I'm-"
"Hey, would you move the line?" A woman shouted from the middle of the line behind the tall person.
"Ah- sorry, I'll be going now-" [name] turned to Kai, "See you later, man."
"See ya!" He said, handing them the espresso.
As [name] stood down for once, they began thinking about a lot of things at once. Rambling in their head, also known as overthinking.
Kai seems to be much more chill recently, that therapy did wonders to his anxiety. I remember the nervous wreck he was before. Also he finally grew a beard! That testosterone really helped, didn't it?
Damn this coffee taste like... coffee? I don't know what coffee tastes like. What does it actally taste like? Does it have any similarities to any other flavors? Did I forget to water my plants? I toatlly did. Dammit.
What am I going to tell River? I was going to meet a friend? Maybe, it's a good excuse and oh my lord and savior I'm such a shit friend arggggghhhhhhhh. I shouldn't have overreacted that way, I don't think she's going to judge me. No, she ain't the type to do that.
And so [name] continued to take occasional sips of coffee while staring at a nearby wall, looking like they had some personal vendetta against the poor thing. Their gaze suddenly snapped to the door, who made a little jingle. A costumer entered the shop.
Nothing. Why am I even this damn paranoid?
After finishing the coffee, they decided to not keep River waiting any longer and go back home. In a hurry, they left the cafe speedwalking. [Name]s posture was straight and sharp as they rushed to the apartment. The walk had them leading it with their head, bending slightly forward.
Once they got there they determinedly pulled out the... wrong key. [Name] again and again until they got the right key in hand, and unlocked the door. Quickly locking it after them, their adrenaline and determination seemed to wear off.
Taking a deep breath, [name] swiftly and unusually gracefully made their way to their own home. This time they got their right key in hand in the first try and unlocked the apartments entrance. Slamming the door open with more force than intended, they pushed and locked the door after wincing at the slamming sound.
[Name] didn't even wait to get to bed amd just took the flower and, this time, gently touched it with their teeth. They weren't that surprised when a loud thud could be heard all throughout the apartment complex.
Ouchie.
Searching for River, [name] looked at every little corner in the rooms, though to no avail.
River left.
