It was decided, I was taking this opportunity to explore. And I ended up exactly where I wanted to be. Only a few guards wondered around their posts which made it all too easy to get by. But also, made me curious as to why the security was so lax...
I strolled into the archives. It was massive. Artifacts from all time and space were on display around the room. And it didn't take long before I eyed the item for my mission.
"Excuse me, but you shouldn't be here" I heard a someone call out to me.
I turned around and almost gasped. There, standing right in front if me was, Thor. Shit. It would have been easy to deal with a guard or any other soldier. But getting caught by Thor was completely embarrassing.
"You? How are you-" He paused for a moment. And I could see the lightbulb coming on as he put the pieces together and answered himself, "...Loki"
His tone was full of regret. And I almost felt sorry for him. But I was not in the time nor place to be getting sentimental. I had to keep my guard up so I wouldn't get caught.
"I didn't even see him at the auction last night. I was beyond surprised to see who won me." I wasn't lying when I said that but the next part was definitely going to be bullshit, " and I'm so sorry. I didn't know I wasn't allowed. I got lost on my way to the servants quarters. There wasn't anyone around to give me directions."
Thor gave me a soft, innocent smile, "I know this place can be confusing for new people. Let me escort you."
"Oh, you don't have to do that. I'm sure-" I started
"I insist" he interrupted and motioned towards the exit.
We walked out and I asked, "What was that place anyways?"
"That would be our treasure room" he exclaimed excitedly, "But I'm afraid it's off limits"
"Got it. I certainly don't want to get in trouble. Especially not on my first day." I laughed nervously and peered over at him to see if he was angry that I was in there. But the look on his face was one of concern.
He stopped and faced me as he asked, "He hasn't hurt you has he?"
"Who? Loki?" I responded, confused at his question and change of subject, "No. Why would he hurt me?"
His shoulders shrugged slightly, "He has a tendency to take his pranks a little too far. He obviously only wanted you because I wanted you."
I'm sorry, did Thor just say he wanted me? I kind of just stared at him as I wasn't sure how to respond.
"Follow me," Thor instructed as we headed down the hallway.
A rush of emotions flooded me as we walked together. At one end I felt so small, both literally and metaphorically. He was a tall, muscular god and I was a short, tiny mortal. But also, being in his presence felt empowering. I felt strong and walked with my shoulders back and my head held high.
I smiled at him as we neared Loki's wing of the palace, "Thank you for showing me the way back"
He sighed as we stopped. "I will remedy this," he said as he put his hands on my shoulders and gave me a serious look, "I'm sure I can give my brother something he wants and ill have you on my side in no time."
Back in my room, I sat on the edge of my bed in a bit of daze. Now that I know exactly where the item is, that I need to retrieve, I should be formulating a plan to get it. But my mind was distracted.
I decided that, over the next few days, I wasn't going to leave my room unless it was absolutely necessary. I needed to keep my distance and stay focused on my mission. I cant risk getting involved any deeper with either of the gods.
