"Honk"
"Honk"

I lounged forward as the sound of car horns echoed through the room.
As I lazily opened my eyes, the sun barely kissed the hem of the curtains as they hung against the walls.

Reaching over, I grabbed my phone from the night stand. Pressing the home button, the time flashed across the screen as I lied there staring over at it. It was just 5:00am who could possibly be passing this block so early.

Shifting gently, I returned the phone to the night stand as I shuffled to the edge of the bed. Grabbing my crutches, I steadied them under both arms as I made my way over to the window. As I scrambled over, the glare of headlights peeped up from the drive way. Looking down, I saw my mom's car parked in the drive way.

Flicking off her head lights, her driver door swung open as she made her way to the passenger side. Reaching in, she grabbed her backpack as she threw it over her shoulders. Fishing her keys from her pockets, she grabbed her pully from the trunk as she made her way up the porch.

Pulling back my curtains, I steadied my weight on the crutches as I made my way over to the door. Swinging it open, I gingerly made my way through the door as I made my way down the hall way. As I reached the top of the stairs, I could hear my mom talking on the phone animatedly as she dropped her bags by the door.

Walking in she slouched into the couch face down without even noticing me. As I neared the living room, the conversation became audible and so did my feet.

Realizing I was in the room, she rushed out a farewell as her head plopped up from behind the couch. "Hi sweetie" she chirped as a guilty expression washed across her face.

Maneuvering my way to the end of the stairs, I gently slouched into the sofa next to her as she made room for me. "Hey mom" I finally retorted.

"I've missed you" she whispered as she pulled me into a quick embrace. "Where's Aiden?" She continued.

"He should be in the guest room sleeping" I retorted looking down at nothing in particular.

"How was your trip?" I questioned trying to change the subject.

"Long" she retorted "I'm jetlagged. I'm just gonna freshen up and go and have a very long nap" she continued.

"Do you need any help to get up the stairs?" she questioned as she grabbed her bags that rested by the door.

"Actually I think I'll just hang here for a while." I retorted.

                                                                          ****************

It  was almost 8:30am and I was still sprawled out on the couch. Mom was stilling taking a nap and Aiden was in the shower. Scrambling to my feet and crutches, I was about to make my way up the stairs when the phone rang from the kitchen.

Scrambling into the kitchen, I grabbed the receiver from the wall as I placed it to my ear. "Hello" I rushed out.

As I stood there waiting for an answer, the deafening silence felt all too familiar. "Hello" I breathed out. I could feel my heart racing harshly against my chest s I waited for an answer.

Pulling the receiver away from my ears, I was about to end the call when a muffled sound brought me to a halt. Pulling back the phone to my ear, I could hear harsh raspy breathing coming in from the other end of the line. They were Sharpe deep breaths that sounded almost like someone being suffocated.

"Ahhh!" I yelled slamming the receiver against the wall as I felt something brush against my shoulder.

Turning on my heels, I saw Aiden staring down at me.
