I watched as the Thorn Court throne room filled once more. Servants and Maids were disposing of the dead and others were searching the grounds, tracking Aros deep into the woods. I sighed in relief when I saw Nakoma return to the room, knowing Aros had been lying about her death.
He had impersonated Nakoma and threatened her life. Aros had used Nakoma's blood to lure popele to Thorn Court so he copuld kill the ones who didn't come to his side.
Once I saw Erik, relief washed through me. I jogged over to him and he sighed when he saw me. I practically threw myself at him but after a quick second he pushed me away to look at my face.
"What happened?" he demanded.
I sighed. "You were right. We had a mole," I told him as a sob hitched in my chest I didn't want to tell him of this betrayel. It would break him. "Regor was working with Aros."
Erik leaned away and looked at me now. "Was?"
i sank my head. "I killed him," I admitted. "I didnt't mean to, I lost controle-"
Erik touched my face. "Did he suffer?" he asked me.
I looked up at him, to shocked by his question to speak. So I nodded. Erik smiled at me. "Good girl," he praised me. Nakoma joined us at the steps of the thrown.
"Lexi, are you hurt?" she asked me.
I turned to face her, my face settling into a shocked expression. Nakoma looked horrible. She had a black eye, her nose had been broken and her lip was split and bleeding. "Nakoma... this is all my fault-'
Nakoma didn't let me finish. She reached and grabbed my shoulders, making me fully face her. "You listen to me, Alexandra Victoria Modori," she told me and I blushed a little at her choice of name. I was not yet really a Modori. I was still a Darkbloom. I didn't like that. Declan and Liv were Mated to eachother and he was now Modori. Erik and I were only Marked. "You have nothing to be sorry for! You are a Queen! And you are my friend! There is nothing to forgive!"
Erik smiled and bowed at her. "Thank you, Your Grace,' he said.
She smiled at him. "My pleasure, Min Kong, Min Dronning," she said and nodded over to Liv, John and Declan. "I have taken the liberty of offering your Kingsmen a room for the night. In the morning, when you are well enough rested, I will have a Portal made for you to return to Rose Court."
Erik bowed once more. "We are greatly in your debt, Queen Nakoma," he said and looked up at her. "What can we do to repay-"
She smiled. "Continue your serche for Aros and your fight against the Hunters," she told him and folded her slim arms. "The Drydalien Thorn Court will assist you in any way possible, be it trackers or even men to fight. We are now allies."
Erik sighed and nodded. I smiled at her. "Not allies," I reminded her and Nakoma looked at me, one eyebrow raised. "Friends."
She smiled a warm smile at me. "Indeed we are," she said. "I will have dinner brought to you rooms at once. I must go and speak with my Council-"
I looked up at Erik quickly. "About that," I said and Nakoma looked back at us. "We were wondering who you would appoint as representative of Thorn Court?"
Nakoma sighed. "That is yet to be decided," she said. "Did you have someone in mind for us?"
I nodded. "My brother Jon," I said and Erik turned to face me.
"Are you sure about that?" he asked me. "You've only just been reunited with your brother. Are you sure you wish to part ways with him again so soon?"
I shook my head. "Of course not, I would love my brother to stay at Rose Court, but I think since Lucian is dead, Summer is in prison for treason and Regor is dead it may be better of only on Drex returns-"
Erik made me face him. "You don't have to fear the Elders!" he reminded me.
I raised an eyebrow. "Really?" I asked him. "Erik, look what has happened! Aros is a skin walker! He pretended to be Nakoma-"
Erik fowned. "How did he do that anyway?" he asked me. "Skin-walking is serious, dark Magic!"
I looked back at Nakoma. "He used my blood," she said and held her hand to her side. "The night he attacked us, he stabbed me. He used my blood to change."
Jon cleard his throat as he joined us. "Sorry, but I have news from Rose Court," he said.
We turned to look at him, but his face threw me off. "Jon?" He looked like he was about to be sick. "What is it?" Jon glanced at Nakoma and lowered his head.
Erik fowned and nodded to him."Speak freely," he said in a low voice.
"I fear I bring grave news," he said. "I just recived word that you mother, Katja Modori was just confirmed dead."
I watched Erik close his eyes and looked back at Jon and Nakoma. Nakoma cleared her throat and nodded to the gardens. "through there," she said. "Take as long as you need."
Erik nodded and we walked to the gardens together. He had now lost both of his parents because of Aros. We walked for a long time. By the time we reached the lake outside the Thorn Manor grounds, Erik stopped at the water. He looked back at me. When he didn't speak, I walked up to him, my hands going to his chest. "Erik-"
"Want to go for a swim?" he asked me. I looked up at him. His face was blank and his eyes were black in the pale moonlight.
Erik did not wait for me to answer. He stripped off his shirt and started to unbuckle his pants. I smiled a little, walking up behind him, running my hand up his back, my fingers tracing the ripples of his mucles. "I'd rather Mate," I said in a low voice.
Erik turned to look at me now. "It has been a long night-"
I felt panic spread through me. "I am tired of waiting, Erik," I told him. "We have waited long enoygh. And where better to Mate then here? Have you seen this place?" I looked around at the glowing, moonlit flowers, lightning bugs and the up at the full moon above us.
Erik reached and pushed the strap of my dress aside. He didn't speak, but his eyes filled with doubt for a moment. I reached and touched his face.
"I want you!" he told me.
I frowned. "Erik-"
He growled at me, his hands gripping my hips, his fingers grazing my skin. "I don't want to talk right now." He pulled me closer, his hot breath warming my face. "Kiss me."
That was all it took for Erik to jerk me forward and press his lips to mind. It was almost as if it was a race to see who get the others cloths off first. Erik refused to part his lips from my skin. When he did, his breathing was labored and his eyes were glowing white. When he had my corset and sash off, he stepped back to look at me, as the rest of my dress fell away and pooled at my feet. I stood there for a moment, bathing in the moonlight. As I stood there, he took me in, his eyes lingering on me just long enough to make me want to cover myself again. Slowly, Erik raised a hand and touched me, gliding the back of his finger across my chest and up the side of my neck. "I'm scared," he admitted.
I smiled. "Really?" I asked him. "Because I have never felt more secure."
I reached for his belt and pulled it open. "Aros tried to have me forcibly Mated to Regor-"
Erik growled now. "I will kill him-"
I frowned. "I already did," I told him.
Erik leaned away, looking down at me. "Lexi, I don't want to talk!" he whispered and pulled me up into his arms. My beard chest melted with his and he sighed in content, his neck hurried in my neck. I looked up at the moon, full in all of her glory and watched as Hel's face appeared, looking down on us, blessing us as Erik and I, now fully Mated, sprawled out into the soft grass, letting the late night dew dampen our bodies as we held onto each other, drifting off into the blissful darkness that surrounded us.
